My wife was advised to attend the ER to get a CT Scan by her family doctor in March 2018. The family doctor was concerned that there might be a clot in her lungs. We arrived at the ER around 5PM. Family doctor had forwarded his request for the CTS to the ER. We were asked to sit in the waiting room thinking about a possible clot in the lungs. I requested a cup or glass of water for my wife but the gal behind the counter basically ignored the simply request for a person who was in unbearable discomfort. About 5 hrs later we finally get a bed and again waited for the female doctor. We could see and hear the doctor when she was at the counter. We heard her reviewing the report our family doctor had sent. We also heard her comment to a nurse that “I don’t know why the family doctor wants to get the CTS? I don’t think it is needed but guess we will have to do it”. The comments certainly didn’t make my wife feel confident since she was already worrying to death. The scan was completed just before midnight and the same female doctor rolled her stool over to us and said the scan found large cancer spots on the liver. The doctor asked what specialist we preferred and sent us home. The patient passed away 18 days later. The ER at this hospital requires improvement in many ways. We attended two other hospitals following that dreadful time at RM and both the other two hospitals were 100 percent better patient care.
I had a bad fall and the first doctor I saw in the ER was excellent and immediately sent me for an x-ray, he told me to come back in three days if it was not any better, I went back and had a pakistani doctor and he dismissed me without even touching my foot. Very disappointed in the second doctor that dismissed me without even investigating
I've had nothing but good experiences being admitted to Ridge Meadows twice for day surgery, for tests. Once for over night surgery. The nurse were great , kind and gave me good care. The food, surprising was quite good. They even had warming gowns, which no one I know has heard of before.
The doctor in the maternity ward was terrible. My husband and I were appauled at the unprofessionalism displayed by him. He took my daughter to do the heel stick test, and it was hard to get blood, so he rammed the needle repeatedly into my newborn girl's foot (who was already screaming in a way I've never heard a baby cry before) until she vomited and had a short convulsion. The doctor then attempted to blame the convulsion on me accusing me of being a heroin addict. I was tested, she was tested, and we came back clean, and upon him being wrong, he asked my husband if he was sure the baby was his because she "didn't look anything like him", them called social services alleging that my husband might be abusing me at home. Go Royal Columbian or Abbotsford hospital. Anything is better than RMH. I can't for the life of me forgive the indignities I've faced there as someone who had just given birth. This place is a disgrace, and maybe the doctors should read over their Hippocratic Oath.
Very disappointed with the care we recieved in the ER. I am 7 weeks postpartum following a c section and was made to wait in the ER with my unvaccinated infant son rather then being sent to the maternity ward. I am having complications from a c section performed at this hospital and waited all day in the ER to have my ultrasound results Read to me by a nurse and was not seen by a doctor or treated. The hospital put both my health and my son's health at risk and failed to provide treatment.
I would like to say that as a member of the ridge meadows community for over 25 years that i am proud of the services offered at our local hospital sadly this is not something I can do. My chronic illness makes me a patient who needs the er more then the general population does and i have noticed staff has decided to ignore me as a patient or really slow down any services offered or needed. I did recently go as my gp called me and due to an unusual test result was concerned enough to tell me to go and get my heart checked out asap -ekg and any other testing for the issue. I waited and waited wondering if any person would be interested if I was having a heart issue- what is the standard length of time to wait for a tech or doctor to deal with heart attack or stroke ? that a patient might be experiencing one hour? two hours three hours? four hours? perhaps when they see me again they might choose to explain what the procedure for such an event is, the time frame that is adequate for such an event. I am very interested in the answer as I am sure my gp will be as well. My only great experience in the Ridge Meadows hospital has always been at the iv centre- the nurses and staff are caring and knowledgable .I appreciate good service and do thank them for it . I wish I could do the same for the emergency deptarment but sadly i cant.
I had a procedure done in the surgical daycare on 28 May 2018 The nurses and anesthesiologist were the best, pre surgery the LPN was great, the anesthesiologist was wonderful, kind, caring and very understanding, the nurses in the OR were exceptional not even making me feel bad for crying and the post op nurse that I had was also great. Overall experience was remarkable
This hospital has to be the worst lower mainland. Sent home an end stage cancer patient because there was no ultrasound tech to drain 4 liters of fluid from belly. He's in excruciating pain. Was told we'd get a call to come next day and it would be done today. Talked to radiology and was told they have begged the drs not to say that because they are only open mon-fri, 8-4. So we wasted 24 hrs watching him suffer when we could of gone to a better equipt hospital.
