Dr. Tang was my orthodontist when I was a teenager. Now I am also a health professional and I would like to share my personal experience. First of all, he did not fulfill his promise to close the space after an extraction. I didn't want to have a tooth extracted but he told me he can close it. After a few months of starting treatment, I asked him about closing the space, he then said, oh the space is too big he cannot close it, I will have to get an implant or a bridge. I feel that he is doing to this me because I was an international student living alone in Canada. A promise is a promise whether your patient is under 18 or not. And just remember, this once a naive teenager might one day become a doctor too. He also treats his staff poorly. I personally know some of his staff and I know he is not someone that you want to work for. If you speak Mandarin and want to look for a Chinese speaking orthodontist, there is still a lot of choices out there.

If I want to pay for an orthodontic service, why would I have some young girls in their 20's put on the braces for me? Dr. Alan Tang just took a look at your braces after everything is done. I feel a little bit cheated. I would totally recommend another orthodontists.

He did my braces. Dr Tang is very friendly, and explains everything very well. He makes sure I know what he is doing. His dental assistants are also very skilled.

I got my braces done here. The dentist comes off as impatient, just does his job and moves on before you can even ask him a question (yes he is busy, but so are other dentists and doctors who still manage to keep a professional attitude)...and he seems kind of lazy, I notice makes his assistants do everything for him. All he does is assess and talk a bit. And he only hires young Asian female immigrants as his assistants. I suspect that he doesn't hire based on their skill or experience but rather their looks, so the assistants are not good at doing the jobs he gives them, save for simple tasks like fetching things or taking photos.

One girl couldn't even glue a single piece of my braces back on properly when they fell off. They fell off again (the exact same one) a few weeks after she glued them; Dr. Tang gave her good and specific step-by-step instructions before moving on to his next patient and she did not follow the instructions, she literally just glued them--it was like she was scared to touch anything; when she was done gluing I didn't even know because she put no pressure on my teeth or face, just plopped a glob of glue between the brace and the tooth. Because she just filled the whole gap with glue instead of pushing the metal brace back against my tooth, it protruded much more than it should have and was uncomfortable. I didn't have time that day to wait for the dentist to finish with his next patient, then complain about the unacceptably bad job that his assistant did and THEN have to wait another half hour for him to undo it and then redo it. So I thanked her politely and left because although she seemed unsure and inexperienced I'm sure she made an effort, and it wasn't like I would die if it wasn't perfect.

I wish that Dr. Tang could have taken a moment to make sure I understood what was going on during my treatment as well. I think that's a pretty basic ask. I would go there and he would adjust my braces and give me elastics and instructions, but never once did he explain to me what the elastics were for or ask if I had questions. He just finishes quickly and goes to his next patient. This may be preferable to some who like silent efficiency, but I would prefer a basic level of interaction between doctor and patient, and ideally to feel like the doctor actually gives a crap about his patients.

I'm sure the actual dentist Dr. Tang himself is very skilled, but what is the point if he isn't going to use his skill? If you go to Dr. Tang's office, you will not really be paying to see Dr. Tang himself but the under-qualified and under-experienced assistants that he hires. I'm aware of how I profiled them and I want to clarify I have no bias against them, they are very friendly girls who have gone to dental school (or maybe are still going, that would explain a lot) and they're probably trying their best too.

Prices are not on the low end, so you're better off taking your money to a more professional practice OR a more suitably-priced one that is upfront about hiring student dental assistants.
