Dr Costain diagnosed I needed right hip replacement surgery. He and his staff were caring , professional, and thorough. Dr B Fraser also assisted Dr Costain with my full right hip replacement. They were both 100% in every aspect getting my hip replacement done . I highly recommend both doctors 👍👍 Sault Ste Marie is truly blessed to have such knowledgeable surgeons . Thank You , FrankIrwin

Went to him for a fairly common foot issue, told me he had to cut a major tendon to get it fixed. Said he watched a video on it but had never done it before. Kept telling me I may never feel my foot again. Went to a second surgeon who said it was an easy fix, he went in around the tendon, and fixed the problem with zero complications. Recovery time was very short. Rather than admitting he couldn’t handle the surgery, he was willing to put my ability to walk in jeopardy for his own ego.

Recently did surgery on my moms knee, said he should’ve bit a hinge in, but didn’t have one, so he didn’t. Apparently that’s the kind of care he has for his patients. These incidents were years apart, we now refer to him as Dr. C*ckstain. If you want haphazard surgery, he is the Dr for you.

So happy to have him as my Dr, such a fun caring person. I’ve had many orthopaedic Dr’s over The my life and he’s by far the best. One of his best quality is his humour to put you at ease, he also not once said anything about my weight other Dr would make me feel bad and not be nice, because of that I felt like he believed in me and is giving me a second chance, since my hip surgery Jan 24th 2019 I lost 40lbs because I Want to do it for him because he did not ask me to do it, but I know it’s best. Next it’s my knee surgery and I’m looking forward to my new awesome life all due to him. Oh and my leg was like an inch shorter and my leg was crooked to the left and he fixed me all up, it was a big job and he was able to do it. Luc Levesque

Dr.Costain is skilled, thorough, personable, good sense of humour and compassionate (he even went out of his way to lay warm blankets and tuck me in pre surgery). TOP NOTCH SURGEON

I was fortunate to have Dr. Costain perform hip replacement surgery on me in March 2018. He was extremely informative; very personable; and the confidence he exuded made me very comfortable. He got an old guy walking again. J.B.

Dr. Costain is knowledgeable, helpful and very approachable. His sense of humour is always turned ON.... he is pleasant to be around. I have found his medical care extremely helpful. Although I do not require surgery, I do have cortisone injections with great results. He can come across a bit flippant I do not think that is his intent.

This doctor is quirky, sometimes flippant and I can see some may find him domineering. However, I have a number of physician friends who say he is a world class surgeon. His surgery on me was top notch and so effective. I also found him very caring and careful. I have a number of friends on whom he has performed surgery and their experience is the same as mine when we compare. This doctor is super competent and skilled.

Horrible. Rambles on and on in Doctor language like I should understand a word he's saying. Can't get an word in edge wise to ask what the he'll he's talking about. Quirky sense of humour. Seems nice but I really wish he would slow down and explain issues better. Seems rushed. Always.
