I would not recommend Dr. Gewirtz. As other reviewers indicate below, she has ZERO bedside manners, and is very dismissive, antagonistic and insulting. I had an experience similar to her patient below with her son. My mother had an appointment with Dr. Gewirtz and had asked me to go with her since English is her second language and wanted me to help communicate the issues she was experiencing to the doctor. Just like the person indicated below, she told me she would only talk to her patient - NOT me and didn't want me in the room. I find this ridiculous. It is an EYE exam - not open heart surgery. In addition, I have been to plenty of my mother's doctors appointments to help communicate.

As a doctor, you will have patients with VARIOUS needs - disability, language barriers, children, etc. Doctors should be more accommodating with this! It is important to have bedside manners and be able to communicate effectively without being so crass/dismissive/antagonistic.

Again, I do NOT recommend Dr. Gewirtz.

I went to see Dr Gewirtz for a dry eyes exam and brought my 10 year old son and was REFUSED to be seen because he was with me.

As my son sat quietly (as he generally does) playing games or watching videos on his tablet Dr. Gewirtz said that he must stay in the waiting room ALONE!

She said that she could not have him in the room since she was DISTRACTED by him/children.

I tried to explain that he will just sit there and will not touch or do anything - she just said "I will not see you with him!"

Very rude and no "bedside manner."

Coming from Greenwich - children have never been an issue with other appointments, etc. and I would obviously not bring him to other types of Doctors appointments or meetings - but an eye exam?!

If this was any indication of her patient empathy and understanding I am glad I have not started any exams/treatments with her.

Dr Gewirtz was very caring and very thorough. She listened to my complaints and made sure to test my eyes completely. My exam was pain free. I am very happy to have her as my eye doctor.
