This my first time in posting a physician review. In my 47 years of life, I'd say I drew the conclusion that all doctors were eager and capable of helping treat my medical issues or concerns. Sure, I've "liked" some better than others. But I've chosen to not make "liking" the doc the priority and instead just focused on results. I really tried to make a go of it with Dr. De Olazo. My biggest regret is not trusting my initial instinct after my first couple visits. I saw no compassion, or desire to understand me as a person or my condition. But I chalked that up to the inherit nature of some scientifically minded people in the world (big mistake). I decided I could live with the seemingly lack of real concern for me or my family if we simply got good results. After one year of treatment in her care, I conclusively found my answer.
I've been treated for a medical condition for 16+ years by several other physicians and occasional specialists for additional support around the country as I've moved with new jobs. I have extensive records including lab reports and MRI's to support the condition and a rich treatment history with excellent outcome. I sought out Dr. De Olazo because she was on my insurance provider list and was near my home and work. My previous 16 years of experience told me that ALL physicians could handle my care as they all had. Regardless of the insurance plan, or the state I lived in, I never had a problem or concern before. No fancy clinics or extensive time with specialists. Just good old fashioned family medicine. So I absolutely expected the same outcome this time as well. On my first visit in January, Dr. De Olazo said she felt "uncomfortable" with the progressive or modern nature of my treatment (A 50+ year old treatment with numerous national and international studies and 16 years on me alone doesn't seem new or cutting edge to me or my previous docs, but it was apparently new to her. Every insurance plan I have been on covers the medication 100%). She initially ran me through the gauntlet of labs to confirm my already documented condition and then eventually continued my pre-existing and well established treatment plan. 10 months into the relationship, she sent me to a "specialist" (one whom she apparently hadn't researched to see if the specialist could treat me) to take over my treatment protocol. The "specialist" wasn't experienced but knew who was and naturally sent me to an excellent clinic downtown Portland that specialized in diagnosing and treating my condition. The clinic said my condition was already well managed and documented and wanted to know why I was there in the first place. They said their patients came to them with the long-term goal of being as well managed and cared for as I had already been in the past. They pointed out that they do not insurance bill and all expenses would be out of pocket ($3000/year. Where my insurance would pay 100% if De Olazo just continued to write the script.) They reviewed my medical records and lab reports and said they they'd love to have me as patient but, since they don't insurance bill, they made a couple minor recommendations and sent me back to De Olazo to continue my current program "as is." Today, despite what the well known downtown clinic said, De Olazo refused to continue to treat because she was " just not comfortable." In the meantime, I now need to find a new PCP, I've been out of medication since August because she wouldn't refill again, and it has been one year of my life wasted only to have to start all over again. I just want to be legitimately taken care of and managed properly with an open physician relationship. This is not the place for such things. The cookie cutter approach works fine if you have a cold or need a flu shot, but when the doctor puts their comfort a head of yours, you might be in the wrong place. If you want someone willing to invest some time in you and do a little homework to get educated about your health concerns, I suggest going elsewhere. When you find that Doctor, share your story loud and proud. You found a gem!
