Dr Shook was my son's doctor from the time he was a newborn until around age 2.5. At his 18 month well check, my son had many red flags for Autism. At his 2 year well check appointment, it was even more apparent my son had Autism. This is when Dr. Shook changed. He seemed very uncomfortable talking to me about it and wouldn't even make eye contact with me. This was very different from him as he had always been very personable with me and my child. I also felt like he was shying away from some of the real issues. I made the decision to switch doctors and am very pleased with my son's doctor now.

I knew Dr Shook when he was in Knoxville, he was always on time, always up beat, great with kids, and extremely personable!! Best pediatric doctor I've ever known!!! I wish he would come back to Knoxville and open a practice, so my daughter can have the best doctor!! Everyone has their own reason for what they say about him. But I would refer him to all my friends!!

I had dr shook with my second son and he was his doctor for the first two months of his life... He did not even touch my child not once. He seems nice but after several of my friends had shook and both their girls almost died from him not doing his job and not listening to them as parents one almost died because her temp went up to 105 after having strep for nearly five months and he ran no test for UTIs which both had at one point. This just made me completely change my mind. He is just a pediatrician for the money

We have use Dr. Shook for a couple of years but that stopped when I got a run around from him about my child needing to see a speech therapist (i almost had to beg for a referral) but every other concern I've ever had his reply has always been 'its normal for her age' well today we seen Dr. Shook at hmg urgent care. My daughter was having visual problems and he walked in the door as the nurse was asking questions he blured out that my daughter did not have and at time he stated the name of an infection (not sure how its spelled) but my first thought was how do you know you haven't even touch her yet...he ordered a ua in the office but that was all the test he did (i didn't have her there for any uti symptoms) he interrupted me several times and got rude when he didn't like what I was saying. The whole visit was a waste and I still got no answers so now I have to pay ANOTHER copayment to another doctor to hopefully get answers. I will never let my daughter see him again for any reason.

My son loves Dr. Shook. He is so down to earth and such a common person. He treats you and your child like a friend. He is easy to talk to and my son only wants to see him when he has to go to the Doctor. Dr. Shook has been great about getting to the bottom of any problem that my son has had and he always orders test when he thinks my son needs medical test done. I would recommend Dr. Shook to anyone with a son because he relates very well to boys. My son is 10 years old and he always enjoys seeing Dr. Shook because he knows he will make him feel better. Dr. Shook can turn a dreaded Doctors visit into a pleasant experience for your child. Great Doctor.

Dr. Shook is the one Dr. I feel confident in when it comes to my son. The first time we saw him, he spoke to my son directly on his level with enormous respect. He took the time to show him how to use his inhaler, when to take his medication and what to look for as signs he needed the medication. He does not throw drugs at you as the cure all, which I respect, and every time he has offered an alternative to a prescribed med, I has worked! He is not a drug happy doctor that looks for reasons to prescribe. We do not have to see him often fortunately, but when we do, we know we are in good hands!

Great personality. Good with kids. Makes them laugh. That is where the good part stops--for me. Botched circumcision. Misdiagnosed rash (ended up at dermatologist after 3 weeks of unsuccessful treatment and dermatologist was floored that a "scrape" test had not been done or no other kind of testing. Ended up being fungal rash NOT eczema).VERY,very conservative as far as giving out meds whether it be antibiotics or cough syrup or etc.I've been turned away with no meds more than once --only to have to come back a week later with a sicker child and THEN get the antibiotics we should have got the first time around. If you like a conservative more "wait and see" type doctor than he would be great for you. He seems to genuinely care about the kids and relates well to them, but not a good fit for us.
