I was not able to amend my previously negative review so I am writing a new one. I saw Dr. J again today and I want to give credit where credit is due. He went out of his way to have a conversation with me about my prior experiences with him and apologized for being delinquent in submitting my referrals and for the overall negative experiences I had. It takes a lot to admit your mistakes and apologize and that meant the world to me. I hope to have better experiences with him moving forward, but I was very impressed with him today and am much more optimistic about future appointments.

I cannot express how deeply dissatisfied I am with Dr. J. He has mismanaged my care and my parents care for years now. He was a year delinquent submitting my referral to the BC Women's chronic and complex diseases program which meant I had to wait 3.5 years to get seen and diagnosed. I had to follow up with him 6 times to get this referral submitted correctly and never received an acknowledgment or apology. He has been rude, dismissive, and never seems to bother to read my chart to recall who I am before appointments. I now have multiple immune and complex disease diagnoses, all of which he missed for years and dismissed as "stress". He is far too quick to prescribe medication without going into any detail on the side effects, which is not only scary but dangerous. He missed my father's cancer diagnosis as he misread the note from the specialist and then when my mother asked if he would inform my father (who is in a care home with a degenerative disease), he simply said he would get the care aides to do it! That is not acceptable. Avoid this doctor at all costs.

From what I know and see, Dr J is a highly trained and skilled professional, hails from my country of birth. He would have done his internship under challenging conditions unimaginable to most western cultures. I would put my life in his hands. Doing the best that he can, in these challenging times of COVID here in Canada. Front desk reception and punctuality don't quite deserve full marks, then again, it's COVID-time.
Five stars for a truly stellar physician!

Dr J is truly missed by my husband and myself. A doctor who is a good listener and honest, an excellent family doctor. I would highly recommend him. We’ve moved to island and he referred us to a doctor here and we’re happy with his referral.

I left my gp, who was retiring, and got in with Dr. J., who I really liked in the beginning. After a few visits, I noticed that I had to repeat my history on many occasions about major things, like that I was postmenopausal for a number of years, and important facts about about my medical history, allergies, etc. I have chronic pain due to degenerative disc disease and sciatica and cannot get any relief from him. He only will prescribe suboxone or methadone, which I cannot tolerate; both turn me into a zombie. I am so frustrated with this and the lack of attention and follow through on his part. It just feels like I am held hostage because it is a small town, and doctors share info, and I cannot get a new GP simply because I am not happy with mine. I am forced to get pain meds through illegal avenues, which are much more costly and unsafe. I have discussed this with him but he just does not seem to care. If you have serious medical issues avoid this doctor.

Dr. J is pleasant and cuddly. But that's not what it takes to be a good doctor. He's misdiagnosed me four times, one of them being life-threatening. (deep vein thrombosis) I had to wait years for a referal to surgeon in another instance because he forgot to send the referal. As a result, even the eventuality of having the surgery too late, I now have to live with my condition for the rest of my life. While waiting and waiting for the referal to go through, I went to see Dr. J. on several occasions telling him that I was in extreme pain and had not heard from the surgeons office and on one of two occasions, Dr. J. got up and said "I've heard enough of this" and walked out of the office, on to the next patient. The other occasion when I had the very large blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) behind my knee which was causing me pain in my leg, he again said to get on with the pain, and I eventually went to the ER and it was the doctor there who realized and confirmed that I had a large blood clot. This is pretty serious stuff. I want a doctor who's a good doctor, not just someone who's got a nice smile.
