Dr Schachter is very competent and empathetic. I made an appointment with him because I was very confused about a recent romantic relationship that had ended poorly and I wasn’t able to move on as quickly as I had expected. He has been a tremendous help in understanding that relationship as well as myself and in helping me feel more fulfilled in general. He takes his time to understand me and pays attention to the things I say. He’s a great listener and I feel a million times better every time we talk. After I process the loss of my recent relationship I will still continue seeing him regularly because he’s been excellent at helping me reflect on my own motivations. If you need a highly educated and kind therapist, look no further. You will not be disappointed and you will have many “aha” moments where things will appear clearer.

This guy is a scumbag POS. After raising two kids for eight years, this quack recommended that they go live with an abusive alcoholic step parent in another state. I literally had to drive from NY to MN to rescue my oldest. Don't ever trust this guys judgement.

After a recent divorce, I reached out to Dr. Schachter based upon a recommendation from a family friend. At the time, I was emotionally drained and in no shape to research doctors. I was so glad that my first call was to Dr. Schachter. Although I rarely write reviews, I had such a wonderful experience with him that I felt compelled to share. While I was a patient of Dr. Schachter he provided me with counseling services for several years and additionally, he helped me with visitation and co-parenting issues. Dr. Schachter was extremely easy to open up to and genuinely cared about the wellbeing of my family and I. Closing this chapter in my life was extremely difficult and without the help of Dr. Schachter I don’t believe that I would have been able to find a healthy pathway to deal with my issues and move on.

Dr Schachter was very helpful to us in providing a re-evaluation of competency for a family member to be brought to court. He was very friendly and non judgmental in his evaluation and very thorough and thoughtful in his report. He came highly recommended by a friend and we were very happy with his insights as well as time he took. Although I did not meet his other staff I still rate this area as I will consider Dr Schachter as staff for this question.

I've seen Dr. Schachter for both co-parent and individual counseling relating to a divorce. He was able to bring all conflict to a swift and satisfactory resolution for all. He was extremely insightful and fair about all matters pertaining to both child and adult psychology. Other than the fact that he could use more help with office concerns and scheduling, I don't think you will find a better professional in the fields he covers.

Dr. Schachter evaluated my son who struggled in school despite his high intelligence. He was never hyperactive and always had good grades so teachers didn't think he had ADHD. After a thorough interview and testing, Dr. Schachter diagnosed him with ADHD, predominantly inattention. As a result of his suggestions for behavioral management and medication, my son is a happy, high achieving young man on an excellent career path.

Dr. Schachter diagnosed my son with a Nonverbal Learning Disability when other psychologists misdiagnosed him with everything from Aspeger’s Disorder to Bipolar Disorder. Once he was properly diagnosed and provided with an IEP at school, his emotional problems improved and he is headed to college. Dr. Schachter is known as one of the best diagnosticians in the area.

Dr Schachter interviewed my family for a custodial purposes. From the 1st visit my gut told me that he was partial to men and even told me that women do not always get custody of their children. He failed to ask proper questions to our children. Children tend to answer w/o detail as did mine, leaving room for false interpretation. In the end he recommended that the father retain custody, a man with a drinking problem, stating no dwi, indicated by CPS for inadequate guardianship, falsely accusing me of child abuse. His report contained both false and incorrect info. He even said that my work schedule conflicted with our children-I work at the school! He twisted the situation and his report to accommodate his recommendations, right down to the scores of the pmmi2 test. I scored higher and he justified my spouses lower score. If ever in need of a fair/competent professional, choose another. Perhaps one that is not bitter from his own divorce.

Dr. Schachter had seen my son for years. He incorrectly diagnosed my son with anxiety when in fact he was bi-polar. Dr. Schachter failed to coodinate care at any time with my son's psychatrist. My son perished at 18 years old by Dr. Schachter's inability to meet a standard of care resulting in negligence.
