The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic represented Dr. Baird as a breast cancer expert and as their best surgeon to perform my mastectomy as a result of breast cancer. As my ultra-sound did not detect any other tumors and indicated the cancer had not spread to the lymph nodes, he recommended that I consider getting a breast reconstruction during the same surgery as no other treatment would be necessary. He FAILED to mention and make me aware of the risk of exactly what happened: as part of the mastectomy, sentinel lymph nodes were removed and analyzed to see if the cancer was present in the lymphatic system. 4 weeks after my surgery he informed me that cancer had been found in the lymph nodes and now I need chemotherapy as well as radiation OF THE NEW BREAST TISSUE. My reconstruction was never finished, so I have numerous scars and visible damage from the radiation. I have spoken to a different surgeon since then (in another city), who informed me that they rarely perform the 2 surgeries together DUE TO THIS VERY RISK. As far as I am concerned, Dr. Baird failed to relay to me all of the risks of this course of action and is directly responsible for my lousy outcomes. He may try to claim that it was my decision, but that is a cop-out. I sought out and paid for an expert in breast cancer/mastectomy surgery, and he presented himself as such. I expert an expert to lay out all the facts , all the unknowns, and all the risks. He failed to do that, but he definitely got paid. Now I am paying for his mistakes. Thanks to the oxymoron of "Tort Reform" in Texas, I cannot even hold him accountable for his mistakes. I am posting this to alert others and hopefully prevent this from happening to them.

Great doc. Had to get gallbladder removed. Spent time answering all of my questions prior to surgery and was reassuring throughout the entire process from pre-surgery visit, day of surgery and afterwards. Good surgeon all around. The scars healed nicely too.
