Dr. Richard C. Rooney's Credentials
Biography
Dr. Rooney is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He was an All-Army athlete as a cadet at the United States Military Academy and then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. After medical school, he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training in the Army and a Spine Surgery Fellowship at U.C. San Diego/San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders. Dr. Rooney has won many awards throughout his career. Among the most note-worthy were that he was separately selected as the Clinical Travelling Fellow by the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society and the Cervical Spine Research Society while an Army Spine Surgeon. He is the only surgeon to ever win all three of these awards and is particularly proud that it was bestowed upon him by his spine surgery colleagues. His accomplishments in the field of Regenerative Medicine and his knowledge of Stem Cell science were recognized by Congress and in 2009 and 2011 he was appointed as a Peer Reviewer for Congressional Directed Medical Research Programs in Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell therapy in Orthopaedics. After leaving the Army in 2010, he joined The Polyclinic in downtown Seattle. In Seattle, Dr. Rooney was recognized as a 2011, 2012, 2013 Seattle Superdoctor, 2012 Seattle Met Magazine ‘Top Doctor’ selection, and 2011-2013 Vitals.com Compassionate Physician Recognition. At the end of 2012, he left The Polyclinic to enter private practice. He serves as the Chief Strategy Officer for Celling Biosciences in addition to his practice. He has authored over a dozen research articles, given hundreds of lectures on Spine Surgery and Regenerative medicine and authored the Spine and Orthopaedic chapters in the definitive textbook on Combat Trauma. His professional focus is limited to conditions of the spinal column and Regenerative Medicine/Stem Cell therapy. He has been one of the industry leaders in the development of ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) principles as they apply to Spine Surgery.

I laughed when I read the previous reviewer who complained that Dr. Rooney "did nothing" for his/her neck pain. After reading the depiction of their conversation I am actually even more impressed with Dr. Rooney than I already was. You went to Dr. Rooney, a SURGEON, and he told you that your neck pain could not be solved with SURGERY. That in and of itself is so honest and amazing. Then when you told him what you were doing that was helping the pain, he correctly told you to keep doing those things. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? Would it have been better if he needlessly operated on you??! Hilarious.
I had a lumbar fusion by Dr. Rooney a couple years ago, and I can honestly say he saved my life-- my quality of life. I did extensive research before I went to him, and I knew all about the bogus legal problem he had -- which by the way, ended up being nothing more than a simple misdemeanor for a mistake he made over 10 years ago in the army. The reality is, Dr. Rooney is so widely regarded in the medical community (my brother-in-law is a doctor and he told me Dr. Rooney is the only spine surgeon he would recommend). I made the right choice and I'm glad I did. I cannot emphasize enough-- if you think you may need spine surgery, this is THE surgeon to go see. He is honest and nice, and he took the time to thoroughly explain my condition and the treatment options. He really is the best.
