My mother had a valve replacement on June 28, 2023. For seven months, she suffered from persistent vomiting. She died on my birthday, Feb 1, 2024. My mother was the most wonderful woman you ever met. Dr. Dumas abandoned her, told us he did not know what was causing the vomiting and left my father, a 87 year old man to navigate the medical system to figure out what he did during surgery. How does this make sense? What would you do this to a lovely, old lady and mother of 7. What ensued was 7 months of arguing and bickering amongst my siblings. We had no idea what to do. How could Dr. Dumas just abandon my 81-year mother. We called his office weekly, trying to get him to reexamine my mother who never stopped vomiting after his surgery Why didn't he help her? Why did he abandon her. Why did he turn to me and tell me and say he did all he could do. My mother suffered for 6 more months because Dr. Dumas did not want to allocate his time to figure out what happened when he replaced the valve. After 6 months of suffering he finally had Hoag hospital put in a feeding tube, but my dear mother had already lost 50 lbs. My mother deserved better. I am so sad. She did not need to die. Dr. Dumas abandoned my mother and destroyed my trust in the medical field. I am so heartbroken.

He is truly a compassionate, kind, listens well, intelligent doctor. My Gama knife procedure was like a miracle and I felt great afterwards.

He is a great liar. I did deep brain stimulation D.B.S. for my Parkinson.
Everything he said was a lie. Please be careful.

Dr. Duma tends to sugar coat the outcome of procedures and fails to explain the potential risks involved. He told my family member you could have Gamma Knife Surgery in the morning and go out "dancing in the evening". We believed this however my family member was to be taken the the ER later that night as my family member could not walk. He place my family member on a shockingly high dose of steroids that induced diabetes and created other complications. He greatly reduced the quality of my loved ones life and was very indifferent to the outcome of the surgery. I currently have a compliant filed with the State Medical Board and a grievance with Hoag Hospital. One Hoag staffer that worked in the ER warned me that his patients have a high rate of post op complications. He is very charismatic and confident but don't let that be your deciding factor. Do your research and ask lots of questions. Also on a side note his office mailed me a hand written letter Not To Post Anything Negative on Social Media but feel free to Post Something Positive. If you had an "issue" please call his office to discuss however he is never available..

My breast cancer traveled to my brain. I had 6 tumors. Dr. Duma took care of all of them! One was so big he had to do brain surgery to remove it, the others he did radiosurgery with the gamma knife. Dr. Duma is a neurosurgeon specialist, the top in his field. My last MRI showed my brain free of cancer, thank you Dr. Duma!! I always felt that I was in the best of hands with Dr. Duma and his entire staff. Dr. Duma and his team, the Hoag Brain and Spine Surgeons of Orange County, deserve a higher rating than excellent...they are miracle workers, and just downright amazing!

Dr Duma was the neurosurgeon on call when I was admitted to Hoag ER for a brain bleed. He saved my life. My family and I are very grateful to him and can’t thank him enough for all he has done for us.
