Dr. Desautels spoke to me about 2 minutes before performing a EGD and not once after giving me a diagnosis I already knew and absolutely no follow up regarding my condition. I have no idea why he is apparently giving better care to everyone else here who has rated him well. He didn?t even study records from a previous visit to the ER and then wanted me to schedule a follow up appointment to give me the information he should have in the first place. He is not a good doctor and doesn?t care about his patients? (or at least my) well being. TERRIBLE!

I normally would not share something this personal, but I want to give a shout out to a business/clinic that went above and beyond (and then some)! I had my first colonoscopy yesterday. I know this will sound strange, but my experience was wonderful from start to finish. First, my primary care physician sent a referral for a colonoscopy to several providers. The first one that called me told me they could not get me in until the end of May. Because I did not know any better, I went ahead and scheduled an appointment in May. The next day (a Friday), one of Granite Peaks' staff called to schedule an appointment and said they could get me in on the following Monday if I wanted. She indicated that she could get me in as early as 6:45. Since I am an early riser and didn't want to starve any longer than I had to, I agreed. A few hours later a nurse called to discuss directions, address, the medication I would need, which pharmacy I preferred, etc. She said she would also send an email with the same information. That night, I checked my email, but I didn't see it (turns out it went to my junk mail). Because it was the weekend, I could not call the office to figure out the problem and make sure I understood the prep procedure. I was not too worried because I had googled it and I figured that the pharmacy could answer any additional questions I had. Well, when I got to the pharmacy (on Sunday the day before the procedure), they informed me that my insurance had not approved my medication and therefore it would cost me $180. Whoa, not something I can afford right now. From my research, I knew that there was an alternative prep method using Miralax. I decided to try the clinic and see if there was an after hours nurse/doctor to help me out. Sure enough, they had a way for me to leave an after hours message. I did so and in less than 30 seconds, I received a call from Dr. Steven Desautels. I told him about the mix-up with my insurance. He said me not to worry, there were other options. He patiently explained exactly how to do the prep using Miralax. The prep was not bad at all and I woke up bright and early to get to Sandy by 6:45. I had googled the address, but when we got there, there were no cars in the parking lot. Because my ride had to be somewhere else by 8:00, he dropped me off and left. I tried all the doors, but they were all locked. I decided to call the office again and it went through to Dr. Desautels again. He informed me that they had moved 5 months ago, but apparently Google had not yet updated their address. Not to worry through, Dr. Desautels said he lived nearby and would come pick me up. Within a few minutes he pulled up in a very nice car with comfy heated seats (its the little things that matter). I could tell the poor guy got out of bed to come get me, but he could not have been kinder. He dropped me off at the front door of the clinic and (hopefully) went back to bed (I found out from the staff that Dr. Desautels was not scheduled until 11:00). When I walked in, the staff could not have been kinder. EVERY SINGLE person I met was professional, patient and kind. Dr. Kyle Barnett performed the procedure and everything went off without a hitch, and I don't have to do it again for another 10 years . I can't remember being treated so well at any doctor's office, or other business for that matter. Thank you again to all of the staff at Granite Peaks Gastroenterology!
