AVOID... AVOID... AVOID... GOING TO Dr. Gita Singh!!!
She performed a surgery on me that was completely unnecessary (this is a long review but please read)...
...this happened to me a few years ago and I was so angry about what she did, I didn't want to talk about it or share my experience because it brings me to tears.
In March of 2021, I went to Markham/Stouffville Hospital in pain. After an ultrasound and exam, I was referred to Dr Gita Singh to explain the outcome of my emergency visit. After waiting an hour, I was seen. She told me the pain was from a fibroid on my uterus and from the ultrasound image, it looked to be attached to one of my fallopian tubes. She said the surgery should be simple but can become complex but she won't know until she gets in there. I said, if this fibroid is what is causing the pain and it is for sure attached to one tube, I'd be ok with going ahead with the surgery. But if you go in and things are complex then don't do anything, come out and we will discuss options. She agreed with this plan because she also suggested it.
I had to go back to her office for my prep surgery appointment and again I waited an hour before seeing her and we discussed only removing the fibroid and nothing else that one fallopian tube was attached to it.
On the day of surgery in June 2021, I arrived at Markham/Stouffville Hospital, checked in, signed documents, and then waited in a room for her to come see me before the surgery - she didn't come to see me or reassure me and confirm what was going to happen. Instead, a nurse came to take me into the OR. I asked her where Dr Singh was and she said that I would be able to see her and talk to her in the OR (I found this to be odd, but I guess my nerves from having this surgery done were interfering with my 'gut feeling'). When I saw her, she looked at me like a deer in headlights, I mentioned to her "only remove the fibroid and possibly the one fallopian tube" and then I was put to sleep. I kind of remember her talking to me after the procedure but I was groggy from the medication.
After the surgery, I tried calling and emailing her office many times to see how everything went and no one replied.
The next time I saw her was at my 8-week post-op appointment and again I had to wait an hour before seeing her. I asked about my surgery and if she was able to remove the fibroid and she said, "no." I then asked if it was too complex and what are the next steps. She then proceeded to tell me that she removed both of my fallopian tubes and that I would need a hysterectomy to get rid of the fibroids. At this point, I'm in a state of shock because we NEVER discussed her only removing my tubes and what sense would it have made to remove my tubes to then tell me I needed a partial or full hysterectomy!!!
I asked her why she removed my tubes and didn't remove the fibroid, which was what was causing me pain.
Dr Gita Singh said something to the effect of our discussing the possibility of cancer (which she included in her surgical report - most likely to cover herself from a malpractice lawsuit). I said no, we never discussed that. She tried to convince me that we did but I knew I would never agree to that because I was still thinking about having more kids naturally. I left her office shocked and confused as to why a doctor would violate a patient's trust like this - she's a horrible woman.
On top of all of this, I had to miss 8 weeks of work because they didn't fill out the form my work needed to confirm it was ok for me to go back 3 weeks after having the surgery. I had to wait until my post-op appointment for her to fill out the form.
Fortunately, I sought the care of a reputable OB/GYN in Toronto who was dumbfounded as to what happened to me. My new doctor (after reviewing my ultrasound) said the fibroid could have easily been removed. But she didn't opt for surgery right away, she said as long as the pain doesn't come back we will monitor it.
Unfortunately, the fibroid has continued to grow over the years and now needs to be removed.
