Biography
Dr. Mozayan is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is dedicated to providing individualized state-of-the-art care in the diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical retina. Dr. Mozayan's areas of interest are the treatments of: • macular degeneration (wet and dry types) • diabetic retinopathy (macular edema, hemorrhage and detachments) • vascular occlusions (vein or arterial occlusions of the retina) • retinal detachment (rhegmatogenous, serous or tractional) • macular pucker (epiretinal membrane) • macular hole • uveitis (inflammation of the eye) He achieved his M.D. at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he founded the first community outreach program to screen for eye diseases, a program that is still successfully running to this day. After medical school, he completed a Surgical Internship at the St Joseph's Medical Center and returned to New York where he completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Hospitals (Montefiore Medical Center, Jacobi Medical Center), where he published multiple research articles and was the first recipient of the annual Paul Henkind Research Award 2 years in a row. Dr. Mozayan further specialized with a fellowship in the medical and surgical treatments of the retina and vitreous at the University of California, San Diego - Shiley Eye Institute. He is dedicated to bringing the most advanced treatments to our community. Retina San Diego is proud to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging with the Spectralis OCT machine and state-of-the-art treatments of the retina with anti-VEGF medications and is the first center in San Diego to have the latest retina LASER (Yellow Micropulse technology). The Birth of a Passion… Dr. Mozayan's interest in the field of ophthalmology started very early as one of his relatives lost vision due to diabetes. Dr. Arash Mozayan, MD at Retina San Diego is outstanding. I can not know the number of hours he has dedicated to studying and performing eye surgeries, but I can literally SEE the results. I suffered retinal tears with hemorrhage that Dr. Mozayan was able to control with emergency laser surgery. Despite having a full schedule the afternoon my optometrist sent me, he performed laser surgery on both eyes in his office. Due to the slowness of the blood clearing in the left eye I opted for surgery at La Jolla. Surgery was quick 30 minutes, minimal discomfort, bandages removed the next day, and in 3 days I was watching movies. It would have taken months to clear, if it had at all. He is extremely skilled, professional, compassionate and caring. Everyone in the La Jolla operating theater complimented Dr Mozayan professional demeanor. He is really a nice guy to everyone! His staff is equally wonderful. I highly recommend Dr. Mozayan as a very skilled surgeon who can preserve/restore your sight.
