My top complaint is that she started giving horribly painful pelvic exams that were really long during my third trimester (pushing down on my belly, pushing, pulling and rubbing on my cervix). When I complained about cramping and bleeding for days afterward, she said that was normal. Now having switched doctors, I realize that third trimester pelvic exams can be quick and painless - and she was inappropriately trying to stimulate my cervix and accelerate labor without explaining what she was doing and without asking permission My other main complaint is that she started trying to convince me that I should plan on getting induced into labor before I was even 37 weeks – how would she know at that point if I was going to need to be induced? She became more and more insistent on this point as I approached 40 weeks, and finally she told me that she was going on vacation shortly after my due date, and we would have to induce labor.

We switched to Dr. Gonzalez for our second pregnancy and had a wonderful experience. She spends as much time as needed with her patients, answers questions, and is supportive of drug-free births.

Dr Gonzalez is amazing! I can't imagine having a better doctor - she is attentive, knowledgeable, caring and super supportive. I had a long drawn out labor and could not have done it without Dr Gonzalez - she was there for the whole thing and remained calm and and coached me through my contractions and pushing, which I had no idea about. I had an EXTREMELY positive birth experience -- mostly natural, no tearing -- all because of Dr Gonzalez. My husband loves her too. She was also an amazing support after the birth. I could not imagine having any other doctor and can't recommend her enough.

Dr. Gonzalez delivered by son five years ago, and I have nothing but great things to say about her. Unfortunately, I stopped seeing her because I changed jobs, and she is not a provider with my new insurance plan. I am pregnant now with my second child, and miss Dr. Gonzalez terribly. I highly recommend her -- I have referred several friends to her, and everyone agrees that she is careful, attentive, warm, and very thorough. I always felt comfortable with her, she has a very calm demeanor, and she was very supportive of my birth plan (natural delivery). The nurses at the Santa Monica Birth Place love her, and I can see why. I called her office once or twice since I've changed doctors, to get her recommendations on my new candidate doctors. She and her office have been responsive, even though I'm not a current patient! No one has measured up to her yet, I'll admit. My husband also really appreciated that she included him as part of the process, talked to him also, etc.

She's very helpful and knowledgeable. She is always available last minute as well, but you might have to wait a little while for your appointment due to unexpected births, etc. as you would have to at most OB/GYN offices. Overall, she's incredibly nice and helpful, especially in emergencies.
