I've been seeing Dr. Newman for 30 years and have now stopped going. My entire family has seen him. Although he is a decent doctor, I once thought he was great. I've been given wrong medication which caused irreversible damage, he was away when the worst of the symptoms started and NO ONE in this office would help me and his colleagues would not help me at all. His office staff is the absolute worst. They don't answer the phone and when they do "by mistake" they hang up. It takes me days to get through to that office and if the Dr. isn't in, they won't take a message and if it is after hours the covering Dr. won't help you if you are not his patient. He seems to be away or off quite a bit, so it is difficult to get a hold of him to ask questions. Who ever heard of not being able to leave a message for a doctor. I have been stuck on their voicemail system numerous times for over an hour and then hung up on if the time approaches their lunch hour (where they do not answer the phone, nor allow messages to be taken by voice mail) or if it is approaching 4pm when they stop answering phones all together. It was impossible for me to get test results sent to a new doctor that I was seeing, I was told they don't keep films or cds so I had to have new tests taken by a more responsible facility after fighting with my insurance company to cover the new tests. This place was good/great at one time, the other doctors in the practice are just down right rude and uncaring. Stay away, there are plenty of good neurologists on Long Island, you don't need to be treated this way.

Island Neurological and Dr. Newman were referred to me in 2001 when I was seeking answers to screwy things happening to my body. After a two year journey, I was finally diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS. MS is no picnic, and DR Newman and his staff have been through it all with me. All the ups and the downs. I laugh at some of these comments since ALL of us have really bad days...but don't allow for ANYONE else to have one. Island Neurological is a huge practice, and a busy office. I go once a month for my infusions. No one is perfect. Make it better for them. Acknowledge them, Thank them. The machine says no messages can be taken. It can be an inconvenience. But My MRI hasn't changed in 2 years :) so I can live with that and keep doing whatever they tell me to do. I call Dr. Newman my superhero. We have gone through every injectable together, my drop foot, my incontinence etc. He listens he is compassionate and I am still standing. Rock star is probably better!

I was diagnosed with M.S. and was only 25 i had been to another doctor that had told me to pick my own medicine. I didnt even comprehend what M.S. still. I found dr newman through and a friend and i can say he has changed my life and my M.S. I highly recommend him yes he cancels appointments but he is human too and has things to do. He changed my way of living and would never want to go to another doctor.

While he may not be the best doctor in the world, he is good enough4me. I had another doctor (be4 Newman)who always made his patients wait for MORE THAN A HOUR. I literally had to make sure that I didn't have anything to do after my visits to him b/c he took WAY TOO LONG! He also was not very nice. I felt like he didn't care about me, which is why I went to Dr. Newman. Sure, his staff isn't great, & my appointments w/him r always short (then again, I'm not affected much by MS, thank God), but he is always caring about his patients. Also, not every one of his staff members r bad. There r a few pretty nice ppl there who r willing to help u. U just have to ignore the mean ones. Lastly, even though it takes awhile4him2call back, u can actually call Dr. Newman.Ihave had a dr once who literally said that I had to make an appointment just to talk to her. Dr. Newman may not be perfect, but I'll take him over anyone else.

WORST staff in the world. I have been going to Dr Newman for years due to severe migraines and I am now going to begin looking for another Doctor because of his rude employees. On top of it, Dr Newman himself has cancelled about 3 appointments with me this year - Isn't the patient supposed to do that? He had to "leave early". When I call back to reschedule his secretaries act annoyed. On top of it the one time I was 7 minutes late they cancelled my appt because it was too late. I told them I called to say I was running late and left a message but no one listened to the message so I guess it was my problem. Had to reschedule for months later. Horrible office. Oh and no relief for my migraines. He treats his patients like an assembly line. In an out as quick as possible

After exhaustive search for new neurologist to treat my progressive ms I chose Dr. Newman I went to many MS lectures listend to dozens of neurologists before choosing him I THOUGHT I made the right choice However while he speaks publically of the value of QUALITY OF LIFE for the patient he HAS NOT taken my pain seriously or sufficently treated it I keep records between visits of significant MS events & he barely glances @ them can't be bothered. & his staff is IMPOSSIBLE I called 1 day & was told he left for the day would return in the morning I wanted to leave a message but the staff REFUSED saying I would have to call back in the morning just to leave a message I have come close to losing my homecare benefits b/c of his uncooperative staff I have been SO SICK FROM THE MS for days & WILL NOT call him because I DONT think he will take me SERIOUSLY & I WILLNOT put up with DISRESPECT from his staff Needless to say I AM ONCE AGAIN LOOKING FOR ANOTHER DR NICE GUY YES GOoD DR NO

Doctor does not return calls. I am still without needed PRESCRIBED medication refill for 2 weeks. Doctor knows my med history- if I don’t get my med I can get severe migraine and end up in ER on IV of demerol. Has happened before. Have called, written, faxed. Calls go into voice mail which no one returns or messages are taken and re-routed to clerical staff who think they are doctors and suggest changing med or contacting congressman! They refuse to fill out Necessary forms for pre-certification for prescribed medication. They neglect patients (me) under need of immed care without arranging reasonable arrangements for continuation of care. After I followed clerical worker’s instructions and faxed insurance form to dr, she then told me SHE changed policy and would no longer process any insurance forms. I AM STILL WITHOUT MY MED.

This is the BEST DOCTOR in the world. I have had MS for over 25 years. I have seen too many doctors to count. 18 months ago w/ the MS getting worse I sought a new doctor & thru much personal research found Dr. Newman. He is a godsend. He cannot stop the progression of the MS but he is so compassionate & understanding a rare find in the medical profession. We need many, many more like him. Any way to clone him?
