He did not stick to our contingency plan. Surgery was supposed to proceed as planned only if a particular problem wasn't found. When I was given a consent form and read it, I asked about the plan to forgo the surgery if the particular problem was found. He said that was still the plan but it wasn't written in the contract. I had to decide to trust him or ask for the contract to be re-written, which might have delayed the surgery. Unfortunately, the problem was found, and he went through with the surgery anyway. I've had to deal with a lot of pain and suffering since then. Even if I go through more expensive surgery to reverse this, there will be scar tissue, and I know that my body won't work as well as it would have if this surgery had never been done.
On another occassion to prepare for surgery. Dr. Showalter ordered an MRI, even though I had a metal device in me that he placed personally. Fortunately, the questionaire I filled out for the MRI staff alerted them of the problem, and was able to reschedule me for a more appropriate imaging procedure. However, it resulted in a delay in surgery and could have resulted in serious injury if the staff hadn't caught the mistake.
