Dr Smith is knowledgeable about skin pathology, and was treating my child for moderate nodular acne. He injects the pimples with hydrocortizone along with oral antibiotics and topicals. Initially, the injections worked (nodules magically shrink within a couple of days!) but lately (early 2008) he'd inject until fluid squirted OUT of the blemishes. Later, my child developed scarring at those sites, and upon researching that treatment, I've discovered that too much steroid injected in a blemish can cause tissue atrophy and scarring (which has occurred in my child). In addition, I recently brought another child in for treatment of what looked like a cyst or boil on an extemety (when I made the appointment I specifically mentioned that I'd like it removed). When the Dr came in, he proceeded to inject THIS child's few, tiny, unnoticeable pimples with hydrocortizone (adult child was not there for acne treatment!) So, while he is knowledgeable and friendly, he may be "slipping" these days.
