Biography

Kathryn F. Kirchoff-Torres, MD, is Attending Neurologist at Montefiore and Assistant Professor, Neurology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kirchoff-Torres’ clinical interests are in emergency care and acute management of cerebrovascular disorders, including ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage and vascular malformations, as well as the treatment of post-stroke patients to prevent recurrent stroke.After receiving her Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from the University of Rochester in 1999, Dr. Kirchoff-Torres attended SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, receiving her Doctor of Medicine in 2004. She pursued her postgraduate training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completing an internship in internal medicine in 2005, a residency in neurology in 2008, a clinical fellowship in vascular neurology in 2009 and a clinical and postdoctoral fellowship in vascular neurology in 2010.Dr. Kirchoff-Torres’ particular research interests are in hematological disorders and cerebrovascular disease, pregnancy-related cerebrovascular disease, cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome after carotid revascularization and cardioembolic stroke. Her research has been published in reviewed publications, and she has produced many abstracts and posters. She is also an ad hoc reviewer for several publications, including the American Journal of Neuroradiology, the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry and the Journal of Experimental Stroke & Translational Medicine.Dr. Kirchoff-Torres has been listed in Castle Connolly Top Doctors for several years. She is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology.
