Biography

Aaron D. Fox, MD, MS, is an attending physician and Associate Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Fox is a nationally recognized expert in treating opioid use disorder, and as a primary care physician specializes in caring for patients with substance use disorders.After completing his Bachelor of Science in biology at Emory University in 2000, Dr. Fox came to Einstein for his medical education, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2004. He continued at Montefiore Einstein, completing his residency in social internal medicine in 2008, acting as Chief Resident in his final year. From 2010 to 2012, he pursued a fellowship with the Clinical Addiction Research and Education (CARE) Program and completed his Master of Science in clinical research methods at Montefiore Einstein.Dr. Fox's NIH-funded research focuses on opioid use disorder and the interrelated problems of HIV, incarceration, and chronic pain. He leads three clinical trials that seek to improve access to and the effectiveness of opioid use disorder treatment. He has shared his work through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, review articles, regional and national invited lectures and media appearances. Dr. Fox is an associate editor for Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Health: Current Evidence.Dr. Fox is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine-Addiction Medicine. He is active in the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the New York Society of Addiction Medicine. In 2018, he received the “Peer to Peer” Excellence in Medicine Award from Bronx County Medical Society.
