Biography
Dr. Asghar is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of pediatric, adolescent, and adult scoliosis. Dr. Asghar is considered a thought leader, continually embracing the latest technological breakthroughs to improve the lives of patients with complex spinal deformities. Dr. Asghar’s forward-thinking approach is responsible for his development of many groundbreaking minimally-invasive, “ultrasonic” techniques in the surgical treatment of problematic conditions associated with previously-treated scoliosis (revisions) and spinal deformity. A central focus of Dr. Asghar’s practice is preserving normal development and function of the spine, from infancy through the later years of his patient’s lives. Dr. Asghar’s unique perspective is instrumental in the development of a comprehensive whole body approach, and patient-specific peri-operative risk mitigation program, designed for optimal long-term outcomes. Under his leadership, the spinal deformity team employs cutting-edge technology, exhaustive risk assessment, and extensive experience to ensure the safest, most well-planned spine surgeries possible; the approach assures lower risks, less blood loss, swift recoveries, and better outcomes. Thanks to his exacting nature, attention to detail, and whole body philosophy, Dr. Asghar has established one of the busiest, and most well-respected, complex spinal deformities practices in the country. One of Dr. Asghar’s many strengths lies in his natural ability to connect with patients and caregivers – listening and responding to concerns, explaining complicated medical speak, putting people at ease with warmth, understanding, and expertise. Dr. Asghar’s commitment to scoliosis screening and patient education will serve the community well, as there is a definite need for this screening and treatment throughout the greater South Florida region. Dr. Asghar brings over 18 years of surgical research and experience to the organization, and he’s completed thousands of scoliosis and spinal deformity surgeries. Dr. Asghar is passionate about effecting positive change in the field and giving back both at home and abroad. Dr. Asghar and his team are angles and have been a blessing. I have been struggling with back pain and sciatic pain since I was around maybe 18/20 years old. I am 47 now and at this juncture, I was in so much pain, I could not stand very long without my legs buckling down. I also could not sit very long, and laying down hurt too. My sciatic pain eventually became a constant for close to 2 years. After an MRI, I was referred to him in October 2023. When I went for the first time, they were all so nice, empathetic, calm and so helpful. It was unbelievable. Dr. Asghar and his team listened to my concerns, looked at all of my tests / records, and it was determined that surgery would be my best option. On 12/11/23, he performed a laminectomy and spinal fusion of L3 to S1 to my pelvis. I now have cool Iron Man parts in my spine. His work was impeccable. This has been a painful recovery, and I have had to reach out to them a lot with questions. Every time I do, they have listened to me, reassured me, and have made sure to help me feel comfortable and safe. When all is said and done, I will be able to go hiking, cave exploring and fishing and just about ANYTHING again with my family. I have a 10 year old son and he is so excited that we will be more able to spend better quality time outdoors together. My husband is as well. I feel like Dr. Asghar and his team have given me the chance to have my life back. It is a long road to recovery, but so awesome to celebrate little wins. I HAVE HAD NO SCIATIC PAIN AT ALL SINCE MY SURGERY. Anyways, if you are reading this and hurting, I am sending positive vibes to you. Don't give up because life can become so much better. IF YOU NEED A SPINAL DOCTOR DO NOT LOOK ANY FURTHER.
