I see two comments for Dr. Garmo, one negative and one positive. Strange that I agree with both who commented. Dr. Garmo was my psychiatrist for several years. I think he would call his distant and rude demeanor "professional". I was on-time for his visits, except for ONCE! I rushed in 10 min. late and explained that the howling 50 mph winds nearly pushed me off the highway, I had to pull over once and wait for hail to pass, and that was the reason I was late. He didn't comment, until the end of our session that he adjusted for the 10 minutes I was late. I was ok with that because I didn't want the next patient to wait, but was shocked when he said, "next time try to be on time". I realized he either didn't pay any attention to what I said or he had just tuned me out. I don't like to think that my psychiatrist is not "there".

I didn't really care for this doctor's attitude and detachment. He was asking a bunch of questions but provided no insight. I do admit that I was a little unnerved by his cold, green eyes. He is young and appears to be psychiatry neophyte. He is so rude that he rushes through the meeting opens the door, does not make eye contact and says 'bye' w/out even walking w/you to the door. Many of my doctors walk w/me to the door when we're finished. I was glad I made the decision to not see him again.

Dr. Garmo is one of the few psychiatrists that I'm worked with who actually seems to listen to me about my medication concerns. He' almost always on time (in the several years of seeing him, he is rarely late, and if only by a minute or two). He takes an interest to talk with me about my personal life so we can discuss how it effects my illness, and he seems genuinely interested about my well-being. Overall he's a pretty good doc.
