Derk missed signs that Father was abusive. My daughters Cameron (8) and Audrey (6) were killed by their father during his regularly scheduled parenting time. The signs were there she should not be in charge of recommending best interest for children she is not able to effectively do so. Do not hire her in a custody battle.

We were going through a very high stress court case involving our son and his recently released biological father. After research, we reached out to Dr. Derk to be our PRE. She performed a very thorough investigation of both families and remained impartial through the entire process. It was very hard on all parties involved, but she genuinely had the best interest of our entire family in mind as she gathered her information. She interviewed many people and followed up on all avenues, leaving no stone untouched. I did see mention of her not knowing the names of the parties being investigated. She may have an occasional slip up, considering you will not be the only family she is working with, but trust me when I say she knows exactly who she is talking to and about, as well as the case that is being discussed.

Horrible, biased, and lazy child and family investigator. She couldn’t keep facts straight, refused to look at evidence from us while accepting it from the other party, visited/spoke with us for a total of 2.5 hours but spent at least 8 hours with the other party, investigated things that were not authorized by the court, listed all the great stuff the other party claimed to do with the kiddo while conveniently leaving out all the things we told her we did with the kids, she listed all the other parties allegations of substance abuse against us (Lies by the way) but didn’t mention our concerns about the other party’s established and documented substance abuse issues-again we had emails from the other party that she refused to look at, didn’t do thorough research regarding the matter at hand (looked at one website that is known to be biased and was the only website that supported the other party while there were 2 other reputable websites who supported our stance) and refused to look at the data we had found and were basing our position on, even her written report to the court contradicted itself because she did such a bad job. She is totally biased, uses her own values and morals disregarding opinions that don’t align with her own (think gun rights and divorce and religion), ignores blatant red flags, doesn’t know the laws and doesn’t give a crap about the child’s safety. DO NOT USE THIS WOMAN AS A CFI!!!

I hired Dr Derk to be a CFI in my child custody case. She is very professional and helpful. The Magistrate in our case took her report very seriously as she is a licensed professional. I didn’t get full decision making but she was able to stop my ex from using our children as a pawn in the separation/divorce. My advice to people going through a tuff custody battle is to make sure DR Derk knows all of the details and what you are looking for and why. Overall I am pleased with her upstanding service!

She has damaged my family and placed children at risk. Had the audacity to state in court that she doesn't have to validate statements made or to interview anyone she doesn't feel like.

Derk was very rude and unprofessional she told my ex to take off with my two small children to another town for a week . That it was ok for him to do that. Meanwhile she's calling me (a person she's never met) yelling at me with false accusations over the phone. Needless to say we went to court for an emergency hearing. she showed up and couldn't prove anything that she said I was doing. She was very disorganized and even at one point she pulled out paperwork and started reading it but then realized she had paper work for onther one of her clients. When she finally did find the paper work to our case in her big brief case, the judge was so upset with her at that point. The judge told her it was not her place to tell my ex to take off with our kids that was considered kidnapping. The judge did ask her why the mother was never included in any of the therapy sessions that took place in her office and her response was "we didn't feel safe with her around the kids" but then after the therapy sessions my ex weould drop the kids off at my house me not knowing that they were even in therapy. After about 10 minutes of nothing but complete circle talk, the judge asked her to leave the court room she was no help to the case.

Dr. Derk's CFI report was empty, incomplete and inaccurate. It was extremely difficult for this "woman" to let me finish a sentence when I would talk to her. Very rude when it came to trying to hold a conversation with her. She FAILED to see that my ex-wife was alienating my children from me and it's terribly disappointing. She didn't even come to my house to see that there was nothing wrong with it when it came to my kids spending time there.

Dr Derk was assigned to be a cfi. She was very professional and carefully reviewed all of the issues that were presented. She was not biased and ultimately neither of us were happy with the results. She did provide fair reccomendations. Based on her fee she invested significantly more time in our case than expected to gather the information and reach a conclusions. Clearly she cares about doing a good job for the child's benefit.

My advice is DO NOT get a CFI. If you get Dr. Jane Derk do not sign anything. Dr. Jane Derk was assigned to my custody evaluation. She failed to include any of the information that was provided to her in her report. Her evaluation was biased, she did not listen, and she failed to investigate what was provided to her. She had documentation given to her proving that the other party did a number of things that were not in the best interest of my children. She had concerns about these things yet it was not in the report. She wrote down what other people said and collected a check. That's about it. You'll be better going straight to a judge which is what I had to do after paying her to do nothing.
