My 86 yr mother who had just had a partial hip replacement was seen by Dr. Singh while in hospital. When my mother, whose blood count was low and dropping, balked at having a blood transfusion, Dr. Singh wanted to discharge her, saying a couple of times that they couldn't help her if she didn't want the transfusion. I was astonished at this as my mother was clearly in no state to go anywhere. I told Dr. Singh that if my mother were to go into cardiac arrest it would be better if she were in a hospital and that I wanted it on record that I was against a discharge. Fortunately, a patient nurse there cajoled my mother into accepting the transfusion, but I wondered what sort of doctor would want to release an elderly post-op patient in such a fragile state.
