Dr. McCarthy has been nothing but professional in all of his dealings with me. He successfully treated me when I had a torn rotator cuff injury years ago. Ordered appropriate tests for some associated neck pain, gave the appropriate injection, and prescribed very helpful physical therapy which all resolved the problem. Subsequently he moved to his current practice. I was so pleased with his care of me that I followed him to the new practice. This office staff is even better than the previous one! Every problem I have had of an orthopedic nature he has treated successfully. One of his colleagues treated a wrist injury I had expertly as well. Can't say enough good things about his willingness to listen and give understandable explanations of his diagnosis. Excellent doctor!

He treated my osteoarthritis with a shot of prednisone, which greatly relieved the pain, and made me able to walk again. Unfortunately one month after the shot, my knee is weak again, and I am in pain when I walk. I also fear that my knee will buckle and I will fall again. He is a nice man.

dr. mccarthy is one of the worst doctors in williamsburg. He yells at patients and does not give them the respect they deserve.

unfortunately while this doctor came highly recommended, he misdiagnosed my problem, then blew me off to another doctor in richmond, he never listened, truly listened to symptoms I was having if he had he would have ordered the correct test that saved my life, all along it was a tumor on my spinal cord, went to Dr. Charles Wilhelm who immediately found the problem!

Doctor John McCarthy I was involved in an auto accident on Jan 2004. The accident left me with a dislocated left hip and a broken pelvis in 3 places. It also caused damage to my left Femoral Nerve. In June 2005, the damaged Femoral Nerve caused me to fall and shatter my left knee. Dr McCarthy performed the surgery to the knee and followed up with Phys Therapy. I am now going through a Workman’s Comp case to claim some compensation. Dr McCarthy has rated me as 44% disabled and states that I can work 8 hours a day in a sedentary job. This is after he said that I can only work Part Time and limited to lifting no more than 10 lbs. This man does not know what pain means. How can a person work 8 hours a day with constant pain, then the medication does not allow to drive. The medications state on the bottle, do not operate any machinery or operate a motor vehicle. The medications make you very sleepy and drowsy.

My observation and opinion of him was very favorable. Treated my wife surgically for fracture. Good management and decision-making. Was very caring and interested in her. Gave adequate pain meds and directions. Followup was appropriate without being too lengthy. I am a retired physician and surgeon who has worked with many other physicians in the past. We were pleased.

This office does feel like a mill. Too much authority given to PA. Dr. seemed arrogant and not too interested. Went somewhere else.
