Professional, but arrogant and quick to label pain as depression. Made incorrect diagnosis (perfectly acceptable and forgivable for any physician) but after MRI showed serious damage, still delayed treatment seemingly to save face.

I had a shoulder injury. The cortisone injection was skillfully administered, but his overall manner was indifferent and the office is among the worst run I've seen. Good luck getting in touch with him, and his assistants who help with prescriptions did not return calls promptly. No one seemed to care about the pain I was experiencing. The office is too busy and feels like a mill.

I wouldn't wish this doctor on my worst enemy. He is arrogant, horribly rude and dismissive, and worse than all of that, incompetent in his diagnoses. He laughed at claims of physical pain in relation to a torn labrum. Anyone who knows anything about orthopedics knows how incredibly painful a torn labrum--the muscle detached from the bone in the shoulder--truly is. His laughing and refusal to prescribe pain medications--"take advil" he said--seems to indicate a real problem with power and control. In fact, he said it was probably tendenitis and to call back in 6 weeks. An MRI would have been appropriate immediately, followed by surgery as soon as possible. Instead, weeks of pain preceded surgery (performed by another doctor of course). At the least, Dr. McCarthy is unprofessional and acts inappropriately. In my opinion, he is also unethical and incompetent. Avoid him at all costs.
