Dr. Newman displayed unprofessional and disrespectful behavior during the time leading up to my delivery. While waiting in the office to be induced, I was crying and upset. He thought that would be the ideal time to ask me if he had ever told me why he became an Ob. I replied no, hoping he would have something inspiring or sweet to say. Not so, he said instead “I had two sisters who were really mean to me growing up and this is my way of getting back at women”. After a failed overnight induction with the on call Ob, Dr. Newman arrived at the hospital first thing in the morning and said we should “throw in the towel” and proceed with a c section. Again with me in tears and fearful after signing the paperwork to proceed, he asked me “do you know what I do to women who have me come in first thing in the morning to perform surgery?” When I responded “no, what?” he said “I give them the vertical incision instead of horizontal one. Your pole dancing days are over”. I am in fact a medical professional not a stripper. It is appalling that he speaks to a patient in the manner. I would NEVER even fathom displaying the atrocious bedside manner he did. These were obviously jokes but your bedside manner when your patient is distressed is atrocious. Do better. Advice to future patients, look elsewhere, he’s not the Ob you want.

Dr Newman made me feel safe, comfortable and made me laugh. I wasn’t offended at all when he made jokes- in fact, I appreciated it! He never rushed with me & was very professional. I had my first and only baby (so far) with him last year 2017 on Thanksgiving. My nature is to worry and on Thanksgiving Night (although I ended up with a C- Section) after getting to Shea hospital dilated at a 6/7 at 6:30am; I spent the entire day waiting until 5:30pm on an epidural and pushed for 3.5 hours (which I refused to agree to a c section right away) when Dr Newman finally arrived at 9pm.. I didn’t worry one bit. He said there wasn’t anything more he could do to get my son (who was 9.5lbs facing posterior) under my pelvic bone. I trusted his judgement to prep for surgery. And they got me back to the O.R quickly which he then delivered the most beautiful baby. He made sure I knew that everything went smoothly and that I’m going to be in good hands before he left. He really had EVERYTHING under control. I trusted him and still do. I wasn’t very nervous because of his confidence, care and tenderness. He sewed me up very well and I had no issues with my c section or my scar. His bedside manner is professional yet funny and gentle. I will be going back to his practice.

I would strongly suggest you double check anything Paradise OB-GYN tells you regarding insurance approvals and requirements. I went through 3 invasive pre-requisites they told me needed to be done in order for BCBS to cover a procedure. One of which was a painful biopsy. I had already had 2 of the 3 alleged pre-requisites done 14 months prior and Dr. Newman admitted to me in the office he wouldn’t have had me re-do my imaging if his staff would have asked him, but his name is on the order for the imaging. His staff told me my imaging from 2017 had expired and updated imaging was required by BCBS. This has thus far turned out to be false. As far as the biopsy, Dr. Newman told me he didn’t understand why it was a requirement of insurance companies and he wouldn’t do it on someone my age if it wasn’t required by BCBS, yet he performed the biopsy and billed my insurance company. Again, his staff told me it was required in order to have my procedure. This also has thus far turned out to be false. I found out they NEVER even called BCBS to verify they were necessary to have my procedure covered!!! Apparently, they got some claim denials on other claims and are having women go through invasive pre-requisites that apparently Dr. Newman himself does not require/recommend and a majority of insurance companies and plans do not require! The office staff blamed corporate. Corporate tried to blame the office staff. Traci, the director of revenue cycle in corporate, told me they don’t call your insurance company to verify what is required. She e-mailed me The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology guidelines and told me it details what is “appropriate”. The ACOG guidelines are not the same as an insurance carriers requirements and to me “appropriate” just means what they can get away with billing to your insurance carrier. I’m incredibly frustrated I didn’t verify the information myself and I’m pretty sure it’s border line insurance fraud to perform not one, not two, but three unnecessary tests, and possibly an unnecessary office visit. I’m fairly confident a new patient office visit from 2017 is valid for 3 years and you can bill an established patient office visit with an in-office procedure on the same day. The office visit would most likely be denied inclusive to the procedure so I get why they would want me to come in again before my procedure. To get paid. Not because it’s necessary. They told me an invasive ultrasound I had done in 2017 had expired and I needed to have another one before my procedure. Had that done. They sprung a painful biopsy on me during an office visit. An office visit they said I needed to come in for to go over the same info I told them last year in order for BCBS to cover the procedure. As far as the biopsy, another requirement of BCBS. Then 10 days before my procedure they called me and told me I needed to come in again for an invasive screening. I had the same screening 14 months prior. Again, they told me it had expired. A screening that according to my age, I only need every 5 years. I’d also like to mention Traci told me the biopsy was needed to rule out cancer. Why would I need to have both a biopsy and a screening to rule out cancer, especially when I had the same screening 14 months prior. I trusted them and I can’t believe I put myself through all of that. They have refused to provide me with the information that my imaging and screening from 2017 were expired and BCBS required updated information. They have also refused to explain why they put me through a painful biopsy. Not to mention the time I took off work and the incoming bills from their office, a radiologist, and the lab. I will also mention they use an out of network anesthesiologist. I’ve already confirmed with his billing office they don’t balance bill and will accept the in-network allowable as payment in full, but they wouldn’t give me that information in writing so I’m a bit skeptical. I believe her name is Kelly, but she didn’t even know what balancing billing meant. She told me she’d balance bill me for any co-insurance or deductibles. That’s not balance billing! I am fully aware it’s my responsibility to verify my own insurance benefits/requirements. Shame on me. Fair warning to other women to double check anything Paradise Valley OB-GYN says is required! Hoping other women do not end up going through a similar experience as mine. I told them I would remove this review if they would verify the information they told me was accurate. There’s a reason this review is still posted here and elsewhere.

Dr. Newman delivered both of my children. My second pregnancy was rough at the end because my blood pressure spiked so high I'm could have had a stroke. He made sure after I had the baby and went home that I had round the clock care. I had a home nurse for me the next six weeks until my pressure stabilized. I trust his professional judgement and yes his humor is crazy but I wouldn't want any other care from another Dr.

Dr. Newman was my doctor for both of my pregnancies. I had no issues with his care for me or my babies. His sense of humor was great for my husband. I was a little more sensitive the 2nd pregnancy and didn't appreciate it as much. Unfortunately he never got to deliver either of my babies because I progressed so quickly, neither of which was his fault. He did come in afterwards to deliver my placenta both times and all the fun stuff that happens immediately after having a baby. ;) You can tell he gets excited to deliver babies. I was induced with my first and I beleive 100% that the methods he chose kept me from needing a c-section. He monitored the baby and my blood pressure very closely. And when babies heart rate showed some stress he tried some different methods to bring it down before ever suggesting a c section. With my 2nd baby he was 100% supportive on my goal of a natural unmedicated labor and delivery. I just didn't give him a chance during my delivery because we got to the hospital less than 10 minutes before I delivered him. He rushed there but didn't make it in time.
All and all he is a very knowledgable doctor and knows what he is doing. He has the skills and know-how that made me feel very confident in his ability to care for my babies and myself. I have friends who go to him and love him and I know 2 people who went to him and switched doctors immediately. His bedside manor isn't for everyone. I'll likely go with a midwife if I ever have another baby. We are moving to Buckeye and Scottsdale would be a bit of a drive anyway. If I ever needed a 2nd opinion on anything pregnancy or birth related, I would get it from him. So if you're looking for an amazing competent doctor and can get by a dry sense of humor that borders inappropriate , he is your guy.

I've had only the most positive experiences with Dr. Newman. He is a phenomenal physician, and has a wonderful bedside manner. He keeps things light with a hysterical dry sense of humor, but when things get serious, he is all business. He delivered a baby of mine at a very young age which was given up for adoption, and 16 years later he is still my physician and will be delivering my twins this summer. My husband loves him, and we both completely trust him.

I had my daughter last September. I was seeing a different doctor at PV but when I went into labor my doctor was on vacation. To my dismay, dr. Newman was the doctor on call that night. I was separated from my husband when I gave birth so he was not there. Instead I had my mother and father there with me. It was my first baby so naturally I was freaking out. I pleaded with doctor Newman to let me have a c section. (I had a very long labor. It was 37 1/2 hours long without an epidural and I hadn't slept or eaten) Despite my pleads he insisted that I deliver naturally.. He made comments like, this is why sixteen year olds shouldn't have kids and things of that sort. I was 22 not 16 but that's still beside the point. I found him rude and his behavior uncalled for. He didn't respect me or my wishes. The only praise I give him is that he delivered my beautiful daughter naturally amd healthy.
