Met with Dr. Newman years ago when he was at the INova Assesment Center. He had his feet kicked up on his desk and was eating stawberries, then sat laid back in a “man-spread” for the rest of the visit. Everything from this man’s body language to how he responded to me let me know he didn’t take me seriously. He was sarcastic and philosophical. The entire visit left me feeling shameful and hesitant to access Public Health Services ever again.

He also misdiagnosed me with “minor psychosis” after I tried to explain “pareidolia” seeing patterns in things. I explained that NO I do not hallucinate or have delusions, see or hear things that aren’t there, but he discredited this information. 2 decades of seeing different professionals and nobody else has ever diagnosed me with this. Maybe he gives more attention to his higher paying patients ~ during our visit he mentioned he likes to be “charitable to the commonwealth as much as he can”

Dr. Newman is a great doctor; very personable and knowledgeable when it comes to medication management. You get the sense that he cares...and that makes all the difference between him and other doctors. One will see slow personal growth through his talk therapy, because he does help challenge your assumptions. He's pretty easy going...no Dr. Phil tough love here. He's not punctual; but frankly, that's because he's willing to go above and beyond for his patients--even if that means having your appointment run over someone else's scheduled slot to finish wrapping things up. He's been incredibly flexible as far as scheduling, even allowing late day appointments past 6 pm. Newman does sometimes resort to using basic Freudian psychology, but you can call him out on it. He's reasonably good at remembering things discussed in previous appointments, but it helps to remind him of your current situation. Most importantly, he's been there during family emergencies and helps one recover from extreme situations fairly rapidly. His rates have gone up 4 or 5 times, yet he's probably the best Doctor I've had so far, so it's worth it (ask him the story on why he doesn't take insurance). Plus, he's often been able to provide sample medication to help subsidize the high costs of patented prescriptions not available as generics. I personally think of him as a friend, and hope he brings back his dog to the office!

I have been seeing Dr. Newman for a long time now and I will say that this man literally saved my life. Other psychiatrists just tried to ram pills down my throat and that ended up making the situation worse. Dr. Newman lowered my medication and made some changes to what I was taking and now I have found the balance between medication and the therapy that Dr. Newman gives to go about living my life normally. Thank you Dr. Newman!

I think Dr. Newman is awesome. I've seen him just once and have found him to be very insightful and brilliant. I highly recommend Dr. Newman to anyone considering treatment, especially in the area of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I give him 5-star rating.

For starters, this Doc is never on time. This recently divorced man likes to offer the same "therapy road" to his patients. Does not challenge, instead agrees with a patient to sooth and keep your cash coming. Overmedicates without knowledge of side effects. Rather odd and neurotic. The only good thing about his practice is his dog, who is there 100% of the time, but may not be desirable company for all. He is just not all together himself, and it definitely shows.

Dr. Newman is a VERY compassionate, caring doctor/individual who has helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my mental health issues. If not for this man I would probably have "lost it", he keeps patients focused on working through their problems with minimal use of medication. One of the few doctors left who actually takes TIME to listen to his patients rather than rush you out the door...he is worth every penny he charges, this doctor knows his stuff.

I've found Dr. Newman to be a concerned and sensitive doctor. Yes he does push, sometimes, but not too hard, and he seems mindful of how difficult it can be for a patient. Maybe that approach is not for everyone but some of us need a proactive doctor, not a passive one! I would have gotten absolutely nowhere with a passive therapist. I truly appreciate how much he has helped me.

This is one of those BAD psychiatrists. He can't diagnose correctly, puts people on the wrong medications at very high doses and has his own personality disorder. He should not be around ill people, healthy people, or people in general. He made a minor mental health problem so severe with his use of heavy medications and his playing Freud, that the patient was placed in the Psych Unit to get off the heavy, incorrect medications this incompetent prescribed. Do not go to this weirdo.
