I most highly recommend Dr. Svitra as a highly skilled and truly compassionate physician. Over a year ago I suddenly lost sight in my left eye. My primary doctor sent me to see Dr. Svitra, and I was added on for the next morning. He personally discussed all my prior symptoms and medical history, did a thorough exam and additional tests right away. He found that a blocked vein in the retina that was causing swelling, bleeding and fluid. We started treatment the same day, after taking all the time I needed to understand the cause of my problem, what options we had, what to expect, and in no rush answered all of my questions. During the course of my treatments, he was always available when I had any questions or concerns. Now I'm back to 20/20, and cautiously optimistic. The staff and office are also superb. He’s a great doctor (as all of his Harvard diplomas might suggest! ), and I always felt confident that he truly cares.

Truly a professional. Examinations are always thorough, with my concerns addressed and questions answered. Actually spends time with me, which is rare these days, compared to my other doctors. His qualifications are top notch, and I was very pleased with my care. The exam, from start to finish, including dilating drops and retinal angiography, takes nearly two hours, although I'm not "just waiting ." He seems to run his office efficiently, as other retinal specialists had me coming back for this test and that, whereas he got everything done in one visit. I have diabetic retinopathy, which requires regular exams, and I am very happy with the care and attention that Dr. Svitra provides.

We have been seeing Dr. Svitra for too many years to count. He saved my eyesight the first time I met him when I had severe retinal tears. He followed me for many days that week until I was safe. He has continued to nip any diabetes related problems in my husband's eyes in the bud. He spends an enormous amount of time with each patient, and does all the testing, exams, and photography himself. We consider him to be a walking encyclopedia on opthalmic matters. He patiently answers any questions. He has a calm and friendly personality, and puts everyone at ease. Wait times are far better now, but, even when we waited hours and hours to see him, he was always worth the wait. We will trust our retinas to no one else!!

I have major diabetic eye problems and Dr. Svitra is outstanding in every way. He has monitored my condition for over 15 years and I consider myself very lucky to have him. Waiting time is very minimal these days, not that waiting for him would make any difference. I highly recommend Dr. Svitra to anyone that has retina problems

My overall experience was great. I was taken in for dilating drops right away, then seen by the doctor in less than 45 minutes. My fluorescein angiogram was done right there (my other retina doc would have me come back seperate visits for OCT and angiograms), and he spent all the time I needed to explain about my macular degeneration. My overall impression was of a caring doctor providing expert care, I would give all aspects 5 stars.

The doctor was extremely professional, thorough in his examination and spent time explaining my condition and answering all of my questions. My family has been under his care since 1994, and I would highly recommend him as a superb retinal specialist. He actually spends time with performing the examination and whatever testing is needed, as opposed to other doctors that had me coming in 3 or 4 times for the same exam. My mother had retinal detachments, which he performed surgery for almost 20 years age, and saved her vision. She has been seeing him regularly since, and was always pleased with his care. (he was just rated as one of Long Islands Top Doctors in Newsday last week, confirming my personal experience!). I am extremely happy that Dr. Svitra was available for us, performing emergency surgery on my mom back in 1994, and continues to take good care of us now.

I only had to wait 10 hours to see Dr. Svitra. No joke! Imagine going to a doctor, waiting two hours to receive drops, getting the eye drops put in, and told to go out to eat something and come back. Then, when you come back you wait five hours and then are told you need more drops. Well, this happened to me. I will NEVER return to Dr Svitra. People should bring their pajamas and a pillow because you will wait and wait and wait!! I left there 1:00 a.m. I must admit this was his practice a few years ago. Now, maybe it's better, who knows? He did every test himself. Probably doesen't trust anyone else. Performed laser treatments too many times. My current dr. says I am "lasered out". Not good because it caused many more permanent eye floaters. Ask other doctors about Dr Svitra and rely on your own instincts. If I had followed my own I would not have gone back after first visit.
