I show up with a crushed foot but left my credit cards home (so no way to pay the Copay, immediately). I offer to call the second I get home and pay via phone; The Office Manger says No.
While she's giving me her song and dance as to why payment is SUCH an IMMEDIATE NECESSITY to them, she's telling me how my foot will be X-Ray'ed again (unnecessary - simply a move to collect more money) and possibly MRI'ed - (more money to collect). Then she talks about how there's going to be a follow-up's and physical therapy (as in, I'll be paying THEM for these things).

Ridiculous. I told her I didn't like this office, and walked out.

The office is all about finding strategic ways to collect Co-Pays from their patients. Medical care should be about making people well, again; Not sucking every penny possible out of people's pockets like desperate leeches.

Dr. Wilen might have nice credentials, but his office is ran like a swarm of lampreys.

Find another Orthopedist.

I am SO over this office. The people that work here always have a nasty attitude and never want to do their job. Today I called to make an appointment and I asked the front desk to confirm the appointments I have coming up. This lady has the audacity to tell me "this isn't a good time by the way; to be doing this in a Thursday morning". HUH?? I then replied SO WHENS A GOOD TIME? She then says "which date you want because I'm not going to be looking for a date for you"...WHAT ARE YOU GETTING PAID FOR TO DO MAAM?? Looks like you don't want to do anything!! Also let me remind you that you're only open 3 days a week, for a couple hours. There is no other time for me to call and do this. Dr. Wilen needs to fire these people, bad for his business in my opinion. This is actually unbelievable. If you're reading this. IT ISNT A GOOD TIME TO BE ANGRY ON A THURSDAY MORNING. IM SORRY YOU HATE YOUR LIFE AND YOUR JOB THIS MUCH TO TREAT OTHERS POORLY. The fact that these bullies work in healthcare is beyond me. I'm disgusted. Oh, and Dr. Wilen must be allowing his staff to purposely be rude to his patients. He has a whole Donald Trump sign saying "if you don't like it here you can leave". So many negative reviews regarding the nastiness from his front desk. I mean I get it, he still gets money & could care less but when did this ever become okay! Please don't come here, they don't deserve your trust or money.

The poor reviews are correct: Dr. (he doesn’t deserve the title) Wilen may be the worst and least competent doctor.
I went in for a shoulder injury. The PA asked me to raise my arm two different ways. When the doctor came in, he never touched me or looked at my shoulder or asked me to move any which way. I was never told to undress. He never examined me. I told the doctor I was in severe pain and he laughed. His PA administered the shot, not he. He said I need an MRI but refused to give me the script for it until I came back a second time. He just wanted to get more money out of my injury.
He said he would call in a prescription for steroids to CVS. It was a Thursday. That night CVS called me and said they didn’t have the meds he prescribed and couldn’t reach the doctor. Friday he was closed. I left a message and never received a callback. On Monday I left a message in his Staten Island office. He finally straightened it out the next day. I didn’t get my meds till Tuesday, 5 days later! And he had the gall, on my next visit, to scold me for clogging up his voice mail! He truly is a jerk. I wish I had told him off.
When I went back the third time for my MRI results, the PA explained it to me. It was a minor injury, she said. I took notes.
I never wanted to see him again. I went to a real and competent doctor with the MRI results and my notes. What he said is the exact opposite of what I was told.
It was a major injury, which would explain the severe pain I still had. I may need surgery if it won’t heal.
Mr. Wilen should lose his license to practice pretending to be a doctor.

Dr. Wilen is knowledgeable and quite nice, however, his staff is terrible. His front desk receptionist is impatient, rude, doesn't allow you to speak and explains very little. If it's possible, she's even worse over the phone. The young lady who escorts you to the exam room isn't much better. She demonstrates impatience as well. Thankfully, the physician's assistant we saw was terrific. It's too bad the rest of the staff is so awful! I wouldn't recommend this office if you expect to be treated with respect by medical staff.

Daniel Wilen is a smart business man to say the least. As a doctor he runs an practice mill, get them in and out in 5 minutes or less. His intelligence about Orthopedics is masked by this way of treating patients. If you go to him be prepared the have to pin him to a chair to get him to answer questions about your care. This is not a one time assertion. We gave him several chances before we decided to move on. His staff follows suit, they are not prepared to answer questions regarding your health or your insurance and usually pass the buck to some one else who, incidentally did not return our calls. Additionally, for an office of this supposed caliber he does not take checks, credit or debit. If you want someone who will treat you and treat you well Dr. Daniel Wilen is not the orthopedist to have in your repertoire of doctors.
