Asheville ENT is a disgrace. I wouldn't wish this practice on anyone.
I saw Dr. Seal in the fall. I came in complaining that I had been gradually losing my voice and growing more hoarse.
I told him that an oncologist and his wife had heard my voice at church and they noted that "you need to get that looked at, some of my patients sound like that".
I told that cancer concern to Dr Seal and he laughed it off before he'd had me open my mouth. I felt relief.
After a quick chat, he did a scope down my throat. At no time did he ask me to use my voice or make a noise while looking at my vocal chords. Not knowing any better I did not find that odd. There was very little information given or explained.

He announced that I had a nodule on a vocal chord and prescribed months of antacid and allergy meds.

After months of the med therapy, I reported my zero lack of progress and returned to the office. He repeated a scope, though this time he asked me to make sounds while he watched.

With no explanation I was referred to a specialist in Wake Forest. His arrogance was incredible.

In the meantime, I had lost all confidence due to the poor communication and lack of any sense of urgency.

I scheduled an appointment at another area ENT practice and gave them the same complaints. The doctor scoped me and had me make sounds.

Then it hit me like a thunderclap. I asked the doctor if he always had a patient try to use their voice when doing this first scope and he said "of course, you can't diagnosis a voice problem without it".

What he found was that in addition to the nodule, I in fact have one paralyzed vocal chord. Instantly visible even to me on the scope when I made noise.

I since asked 2 out of state ENT friends and both were stunned that no such thing occurred on my visit to Dr Seal. A failure of basics for a losing voice appointment.

I lost 5 months in the process. I had to have a chest CT scan to rule out cancer or other reason for the paralysis.

I now know that a paralyzed vocal chord can most certainly by caused by cancer.

I lost work productivity, money, time and a tremendous amount of stress and waiting on potential causes for the paralysis.

I have since moved on with having the nodule removed and the vocal chord filled so I can speak again.

I contacted Asheville ENT to ask for my money back for Dr Seal's careless waste of my time and health. Did not ever get the courtesy of a reply.

Stay away.

Dr. Seal is a brilliant surgeon, and a fantastic Dr. He has performed 3 complex surgeries on me. I trust him with my life. If you want one of the smart, serious, caring Dr he is your guy. If you want a comedian, go some where else. He is serious. That is the type of Dr i want for serious illnesses.
I have talked to his physician colleagues, respected oncologists, they ALL say if i were having surgery or treatment this is the Dr they would get to treat them.

I started with a referral in 2016, with no following care, and my thyroid nodule, 3 years later has grown from 3.8 to 5.9 and another endocrinologist has referred for removal and after staff checked me out instead of in and a 2 hour wait, that I mentioned, Dr. Seal came in and asked about a Google review I submitted on his staff, I tried to remove and I secure messaged their office a month before I tried to give him a second chance as a professional and when my husband voiced reviews should be an admin thing, he Dr Seal said he would straighten him out. Stop politicing and start practicing patient care! Mission hospital should know what type surgeon they have coming in their hospital.

I absolutely adore Dr Seal. I see him only annually now for an ultrasound of what remains of my thyroid after a small malignancy, but he couldn't be any more thorough, patient, or compassionate. Another poster mentioned his "dry" sense of humor: I love it, of course, but I imagine some may not expect it when they may be at a somewhat stressful appointment.

As to being arrogant or having a "God Complex": When I inquired as to why my incision looked the way it did, he didn't seem offended (unless I completely missed his tone, lol). Instead, he calmly explained his reasoning for its look, and not even 4 years later, you have to squint to see the scar. I don't believe he's sporting a "God Complex" by any means; I really just think it's his sense of humor and his attempt to keep things as light as possible.

I've been put off by docs before, only to go back out of necessity and be happily surprised to have initially been wrong. I hope that this turns out to be the case for others as well.

Have seen this Dr twice. Very knowledgeable and quick. He has a very dry wit, which , by reading some of these comments I see some folks could not deal with. I personally think he is a very good Dr, professional and knows his business. Thank you Dr Seal

I had rhinoplasty 4 days ago. There must be two Dr. Seals, because the one that did my surgery is totally opposite of the negative comments made by others. He came highly recommended, was a delightful & caring man. I felt he was taking care of me to the extreme. He even Called my home to see how I was doing. In a few days, His creation will be revealed. If his work is half as good as his patient care, & his friendly demeanor, I'd say we have a 5 Star Doctor right here in Asheville, NC

I cannot believe some of the comments I read on here about Dr. Seal. I read the ratings and reviews on this site and another site while sitting in the parking lot waiting for the first visit with him after my husband was referred to him with cancer of the jawbone and gum. I told my husband that if Dr. Seal was too rude, we would just leave and get a referral to someone else. The referring surgeon had said he is the best in the field, but I thought there had to be other good ones. However, when we went in, the staff was very friendly, took his co-pay and offered a receipt. The nurse who took us back was joking with us and put us very much at ease. When Dr. Seal entered the room, he introduced himself and was courteous and thorough in his exam. He answered all questions, ordered a PET scan (we already had the results of a CT), and proceeded from there to schedule and perform surgery. From that time on, every Dr. and nurse who has seen my husband has remarked about the superb quality of the surgery and the rapidity of his healing. Dr. Seal laughs and jokes with us on every visit, and quietens our fears throughout this ordeal. We love him and are very grateful for his vast knowledge and for basically saving my husband's life while preserving as much as possible of his facial features and quality of life. Thank you Dr. Seal and all the staff at Mission and Asheville Head, Neck and Ear!!!!

Surgery did not help, seen about a new problem, rude, terrible bedside manner, rude to me and my family, did nothing to help me, wouldn't let him "treat" me again for a scratch, would rather have my dignity, he gives a-holes a bad name

The worst doctor I have ever encountered, terrible bedside manner and nothing was explained at all. He spent 2 minutes in the room and walked out, no introductions, no eye contact .. his eyes stayed on the floor or his hands the whole time and didn't even help. I will be complaining to the manager.

Awesome! One of the team that's saving my life. Dr. Seal was honest, straight in presentation, and most professional. I was most fortunate and blessed to have him as my surgeon.
