My wife and I had eye exams recently. We are seniors and are without insurance. I had been a customer in the past while my wife was new. We were told that the cost for the exam would be $55 each. This was due to a AAA discount. 3-4 weeks later my wife received a bill for $180 for being a β€˜NEW’ customer. This was not disclosed to us at the time of our appointment. They then placed a charge on our credit account for the $180. If we had been told this up front we would not have made the appointment in the first place. How do you do this to seniors that are on a fixed income. BEWARE!

There are so many reasons why you should not go here. They lie, they give you outdated contacts, the get your prescription wrong half the time and do not have a clue how to fix it. They do not publish all their reviews this is my second and I do not see my first accurate review.
Shame on them and sorry for you if you go there.

I did not have Dr. Magalaes but Dr. Parker. Not impressed! they had me take unnecessary tests to jack the bill up and turned a routine eye test into a medical visit so they had to collect a co pay which my plan did not cover. I did not have bad vision and only needed new glasses which ins. normally covered in full. It was a total scam. When I called and told them I was not supposed to pay a copay they used the excuse of the further tests. The Lense crafters next door found every reason to not honor there 30% sale because it was an insurance deal. Ripped off a senior on limited income.

I’m reading all these reviews and I’m horrified. My husband and I just went for eye exams and glasses at LensCrafters. The MD was very nice and very thorough. Not sure what went in with these other people. LensCrafters were also very helpful and knowledgeable.

This is the worse Eye doctor I have ever been to. His ultimate goal is to fleece you of as much money as he can get from you. I went to get an eye exam and wanted to get new contact lenses( RGP). The first Dr. (I believe it was Dr. Nicole) did my eye exam. That went fine. She said my eyes were healthy and my contact lenses fit well. That was $150. I figured that they would order the contact lenses another $150. Not so. They called me in for a fitting ($190). I was pissed. I asked why so much . I never had to go through this before. So I went back for the fitting. This clown, Dr. John Magalhaes took me in. He said that my eye lids were somewhat crusty. He said " I'll give you something for this." Well that cost me $ 60. And to tell me about my crusty eyelids he charged me $160. He took me to a machine for the fitting to0k a snapshot and charged me $190. So I'm into this guy for $400 and dont have any contact lenses. He called me the next day and said the fitting didn't go well , the readings he got could not be made into contact lenses ( the lenses I am wearing seem fine.) He wanted me in the next day for additional advanced testing. I was really pissed and told him that I am going to get a second opinion and " I'm done with you" . I hung up on this clown. So basically I paid $560 to get a prescription for glasses and that doesnt even include the glasses. I wish I read some of these reviews before I went there. DO NOT GO TO Dr. John Magalhaes.

Been going 15 years with good results and no complaints which pretty much speaks for itself. I have no problems finding good things to say about Dr M. Not sure where the nattering nabobs of nagativism are coming from.

Stay away from this place! Deceitful practices. Always late ( an hour and a half wait time is normal). Some of the staff members are rude and not helpful.

Appears the overcharging is a way they do business there- the up charging of services is disgusting!!!
He wrote an RX for RGP lenses ( been wearing over 35 years) to n exclusive art opticals provider- where you can't get these lenses anywhere but through their office- of course for over 200+dollars!!! Money hungry - NO integrity in his practice! Disgusting practice!! Now I'm out the extra money I had to pay for this Prescription that is USELESS!!!!!!!! Do not go there- go across the street- at least they won't price gouge !

They over charged me, told me a year later that my 14 year old had reported the previous year a"medical" condition (floaters they said but my son knew nothing about it) and they at that time did extra tests. I was at that appointment and they never told me my 14 year old had an issue. It was a total scam. I made several complaints and never heard back from them. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!
