Dr. Howell performed a TKA Knee Replacement on me inDecember of 2020. Every single aspect of the process, from the initial appointment to the staple removel, was superb! His staff at Lodi memoiral have this down to a science. The mandatory "pre-operative" meeting with all of his major players was the most complete coverage I have ever had (I have endured some two-dozen major operations in my life).

I high recommend Dr. Howel and his staff. They will be doing my other knee in April of 2021.

Dr. Howell did my total knee replacement May 20, 2014. I was off the walker in four days, the cane in another four, riding my Harley in two weeks and driving my stick**** truck in three. The guy is the best just as my primary care doc and my cardiologist said he was. Six weeks out and I'm pain free, walking perfectly and back to work. Thanks Doc!

It appears this doctor is a Jekyll & Hyde personality. At first appointment he said I had the knees of an old person and I was a candidate for knee replacement and to come back in 6 weeks with my decision. Came back and he acted like he had never seen me and told me to go see a Bariatric surgeon and lose weight. He was rude and offensive. Completely contradicted what he said the first appointment.

I think Dr. Howell is a competent surgeon but his ego gets in the way of how good he could be. He thinks he knows the answer to the question without actually listening to the patient first. He also has shown Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde qualities, either very pleasant or very angry. I suspect anger management counseling would help him. I've seen him turn on a dime and behave terribly inappropriately and unprofessionally merely because he was asked a medical question (that wasn't about him but he seemed to think it was). A hospital volunteer said they've heard him throwing "F" bombs, too, when he was mad. (This rating chart seems to need more categories. Another rater wrote lots of negatives about Dr. Howell, but with this chart the doc still came up excellent.)

Dr. Howell did a great job. I had a total knee replacement and did not have any post operative pain from the knee. The muscles were sore and this continued for a couple of weeks after the surgery because of physcical therapy. I reached full range of motion within three weeks and was back to work as a dentist in three weeks. Dr. Howell was fantastic. 5 stars.

I tore my ACL playing tennis in late 2010. I was told that ACL surgery is painfull and long arduous recovery. After reading several articles, I was very apprehensive. However, I decided to take a leap of faith and get the surgery done. After talking to several people and research, I decided to go through it with Dr. Howell. Did I make a great decision or what. After an initial consultation in Dr. H in June 2011, I want under the knife on September 26th.I was walking /dragging by 27th. For the first week I took vicodine but majority of the time it was just Aleve, couple of times a day. By the second week, I was able to bend my 80 - 90%. I just came back from his office after 3 week check up. Got my staples removed and he was very happy with my progress. When I asked him about physical therapy, he said "why do you want to slow down your progress?". He is curteous, caring and more very funny.Thank you for your expertise, skill and great bedside manners.

He is pleasant and outgoing and very knowledgeable. Maybe not as much as he thinks he is, though. It's hard to finish a question because he either jumps in with the answer or brushes it off as inconsequential. His technique is very successful and he is justifiably proud of the work he does, but he needs to listen and pay attention more and not brush off his patient's concerns. Without ever having seen them, he insisted that my post-surgical symptoms were one thing when all my other doctors, who had seen them, said it was another, and years later, they are still present instead of disappearing in a week or two as promised. He has a very healthy ego, but in spite of that, is a friendly, likeable, and very competent surgeon.
