After being hospitalized for a severe crohn’s flare up, I was kind of forced to see dr Karne. It’s rocket science to be seen for an appointment, sick or not. His office visits were not only short, he didn’t even move from behind the computer to exam me or anything. He ordered 2 expensive procedures to be done and there was no follow up until after a month later. That is ridiculous. I have never had a doctor stress me out knowing what type of condition. The nurse staff does not return calls no matter if you’ve been admitted or not. Avoid being stressed out and find another gastroenterologist!

Dr. Karne records a physical exam and then does not do it. His office is set up to be abusive to patients. Can't get a person and EVERYTHING is routed to someone else. Loves to order procedures, talk about his vacations, and cares little for patient suffering. Would not recommend him or his office.
Too bad he does try to call his office himself to see how poor a service he and his staff provide. Bet he would not tolerate that himself.

Dr. Karne appears helpful, friendly, skilled and competent. However, all appointments and even medical questions (either before or after a procedure) are immediately routed to an answering machine. Then, within the next few days, an office staff member generally calls back. Medical complications are handled by this same archaic and ineffective voicemail process. If this office wants to save time and reduce interactions with the public, then setting up a minimized option email or texting process might be more effective and less stressful for both the patients and the office staff.

His physical exam was less than 30 seconds. He looked at the computer only, but quickly ordered tests that he did well on. He did not do any followup with me at all. His experience and degrees are excellent, but his manner is disappointing. I would not recommend.

Unfortunately, I had a total opposite experience. I went in a new patient which requires an examination. This was a 3 minute visit, he sat in front of computer whole time and never examined me and said I don't know what's wrong with you. Very disappointed in the lack of care I received and no followup. Doctors bill E&M codes which require an exam on a new patient. Waiting to see if he commits any fraud by billing an E&M code. Can't bill it unless all services are performed(ie..exam is 1 part). Will report to CMS/RAC if so...

If you make an appointment with this doctor you should be prepared to wait, but it is completely worth it. I was late and still had to wait at least a half of an hour to see him but once the doctor was in the room he really took his time to understand what I needed and brainstorm what could be the problem. He is the first doctor in five years to make any useful suggestions about my condition. He also has great relations with other doctors he refers you to and if you are having problems with them he is more than willing to help you out.
