Saw Dr. for couples therapy and spent the first 10 mins of every session waiting for him to send us a link so we could even talk. In session, discussion was not productive and IMO involved some sexism on the Dr’s part. Ex: we attempted to discuss a situation involving our child's safety over 2 sessions. In the 1st, we made little progress toward addressing the actual safety concern, which upset me. Dr. said that safety, though important, was just "one of several issues" and not more important than any other. I said I disagreed - thought about quitting then, but tried to be open and came back following week. This time, Dr. met my concern with a discussion of "neediness." I pushed back on that framing and, though upset, continued to sincerely listen. When I did speak, I did so assertively/quickly/firmly and was then told by Dr. that I was being "aggressive." Again, I disagreed and Dr. then said he felt I was usurping his role. I would caution anyone, esp women, against working with him.
