Horrible, rude, unprofessional. Enjoys screaming at patients and delights in their pain. Blames the patients when treatment fail. Called us liars for saying the treatments aren’t working. She then called our PT and screamed at them for treating us.

Should be stripped of licenses and barred from treating patients.

Mary Karkow is dangerous. She should not be helping people with TMJ. She is verbally abusive and she made a mouth guard that made my wife's TMJ worse. She should not be allowed to practice.

If you find another option, I BEG this of you-go to the other option. Dr. Karlow as one would say has a God complex, she's the one that went to dental school afterall and you're just a mere idiot to her.
She will never accept responsibility if your splint doesn't work for you and breaks or chips multiple teeth. That must be YOUR fault, certainly not hers. She thinks her word is the end all be all. If you're not getting help from the PT it's your fault or the physical therapist . My PT hates dealing with her because she enjoys putting others down. She enjoys berating them. I guarantee she has zero loved ones in her life because of she had joy in her life there's literally no way she would or could treat people this way. Her staff is wonderful and polite, I'll say that but I bet they're too scared of her and know not to step out of line. I've learned how to deal with monster Mary but there's no way I'd ever allow anyone to go see her, have surgery by her or her treatment by her. She's rude, berates people daily! She'll bill you for a no show despite no reminder calls made for an appointment made 6-8 months previously then she'll bill you an outrageous amount for not showing despite exclaiming that her girls never forget to do reminder calls. Lies. After I called her out on that, guess who gets reminder calls now? Little ol me.
If you have any sort of verbal, emotional,
physiological abuse trauma in your past, DON'T GO SEE HER! You would be a toy for her. When I see her now, I'm as fake as fake can be, I am happy knowing that this miserable person and dental professional must love the loneliest of lives. All my doctors know her or of her and it's because of her rude holier than thou disposition. Infact one of my doctors stopped referring patients to her. She's awful. Save yourself by if you don't have the choice, remember what I said, she's miserable because no one can be that awful and be that mean and as the saying goes, hurt people, hurt people.

I showed up for my apt during business hours. The office was closed and the lights were off. I waited for over an hour before sending an email and leaving a voicemail to ensure they knew I had been there. I was frustrated but even more so didn't want to be charged for not showing up when they had not. My voicemail stated the time I had gotten there, the time of the apt, my info etc and the confusion that no one was there or had contacted me. I heard back via email from the doctor that she had left early due to being sick. Fine. The next business day she emails me again saying she received my "unpleasant voicemail" and will cancel my appointment and will not allow me to make follow up appointments at the company again. Honestly, after this experience I have very little interest in following up with this doctor again anyway, however I feel that it was terribly unprofessionally handled. Seeing all of the other negative reviews make me feel better (and sort of worse) that I am not the only one who experienced such responses.

I wish I would have read these reviews before making any appointments with Mary Karkow because the negative reviews are spot on. She is RUDE and obnoxious. I told her I couldn’t wear the splint because I had two cracked molars that I had to have crowns put on by my dentist and she blamed me for the cracked teeth!!!! I believe the splint caused the cracks but she completely dismissed that and said it was my fault. She was so incredibly argumentative with me. It also took me driving all the way to her office 3 times before she even got the splint correct so that I could wear it. And, like others have said, staff said oh insurance usually covers everything. After I’d already been there for my fittings they told me my insurance wouldn’t cover it so I had to pay an out-of-pocket outrageous amount out of pocket for the splint. My dentist also recommended her, and I am going to let him know just how awful she is and how she berates and belittles her patients. I will be searching for a new doctor.

Pay attention to the 0 star reviews they are all true. All of the 5 star reviews must be fake and she must be writing them herself. Mary Karkow is unethical. She finds joy in verbally abusing her patients and staff. I reported her to the Board. Do not go here, even if it is the last place on Earth, unless you enjoy getting BERATED! Leaving this review anonymous so she can't retaliate against me.

Dr. Karkow was suggested by my endocrinologist as another option to look at for my chronic migraines. I'm so happy I made the drive. After a couple visits with her, and a great PT recommendation, I've been able to be almost migraine free. Now some of the poor reviews I can understand. You need to follow her recommendations in order to fix the issue and she will call you out if you're not doing the right things needed to reduce the inflammation/irritation/pain. I'm not a gum chewer, but stop chewing gum! I love chewy candy, I have almost totally given it up in order to make sure my jaw doesn't get irritated. I did have to see her more in the first year than I expected because I needed to keep getting my guard adjusted as my jaw moved. Now, I basically am at once a year or less based on if the migraines start coming back or notice something is off and I need to see her (basically meaning the guard needs to be adjusted again). When I first got the guard I did try and wear it a ton to make a big impact quick. Now I only wear it to bed and I try to be really good about that too. After seeing her, I was able to run a 10K, I'll probably never do it again, but I did it to show myself that I was no longer letting migraines rule my life, I could be active.

There are 2 different Dr. Mary K. Karkow out there. The one I had worked for takes her time, is never rude to any patient EVER.

Treatment: Second opinion showed wrong treatment plan.
Over priced: Staff told me the appliance/mouth guard was covered by insurance, made it, charged me 25% more and other reputable TMJ Doctors and then blamed me when insurance didn't cover.
Poor Customer Service. Karkow screams at patients who question her treatment. No one called to schedule appointments or follow-up on care. Asked for x-rays was told they didn't have them - they are required by law to retain. STAY AWAY.

Our family’s experience with Dr. Mary Karkow was a horrible experience. Her choices on how to medically treat our daughter and how she choose to berate our child was shockingly unacceptable. I would recommend being extremely cautious in dealing with Dr. Karkow and her recommended colleagues. Her ego is like no one I have ever met. Choices matter.
