Dr. Carl Childress has attended to my challenging visual concerns for over 30 years.

Dr. Carl is a doctor with exceptional knowledge, unique experience, genuine compassion and integrity. His wife, Patricia, is honestly the most organized assistant I have known. She always ensures the office is functioning at the highest level of efficiency. Dr. Carl and Patricia are both thorough, persistent, and professional.

Initially, I went to Dr. Carl for single vision contact lenses. Through his unequaled expertise in orthokeratology, Dr. Carl significantly reduced the correction required for my very near-sighted eyes. Later, he prescribed the most wonderful bifocal contact lenses for me that I enjoyed for many years, much to the envy of my struggling monovision friends (one eye for distance, one eye for near, and a setup for binocular problems).

During the same timeframe, Dr. Carl also diagnosed and treated me for meibomian gland dysfunction. My eyes were very red, irritated, and extremely dry. I was beyond miserable. Dr. Carl also taught me steps for preventative care at home. The results I have experienced cannot be overstated, even when compared to the four-hour roundtrip to Longview. And, I have spoken to other patients that happily drive from other states!

My initial experience with vision therapy was for extreme motion sickness. Thankfully, Dr. Mary Childress, the pioneer in vision therapy, quickly and totally eliminated the motion sickness that I suffered with since childhood.

In recent years, I experienced two retinal detachments that resulted in numerous binocular vision dysfunctions. I was very concerned that I would be unable to return to work because of the stress associated with visual distortions, especially considering the detailed nature of my profession.

Through his inimitable expertise in vision therapy, Dr. Carl persevered in treating troubling binocular disparities. He also prescribed home training, which was an important aspect of instilling new habits, enhancing my progress and maintaining the results. As my vision stabilized, my sense of well-being was also renewed. Not only did I return to work, I was able to perform all of my duties at the level expected by my employer. Dr. Carl is simply the best!

It is impossible to express the depth of my gratitude for the exceptional care I have experienced at Childress Vision Clinic. My vision and quality of life are forever changed. To say “thank you” is not enough.

If you are struggling with your vision, even if you think there is no hope, I encourage you to visit Childress Vision Clinic.

My wife went in for an eye exam and we were told she needed bifocals. Well we arent the Drs so we went with what was offered, but we questioned it and we were made to feel like we are stupid. We also had to pay a arm and leg. My wife was sick for days following the appointment and Dr. Childress said it was normal. His wife, was rude and disrespectful when we had questions. Operating under the christian banner, I figured she would have more compassion for people. NOPE She puts on a good front. After I took her for more eye exams the other optometrists could not believe what they were hearing. Needless to say we lost out on money and had to deal with the rude wife.

Be prepared to get diagnosed with a vision disorder that is going to cost you dearly in time and in money. The cost of the vision therapy drained me financially and emotionally. AT the end of it all, I was told my daughter needed MORE treatment, another $1000+. To this date, she has glasses that make her "sick to her stomach" and she only uses them to see the board at school. We are in the process of getting another optometrist who can correct her vision with contact lenses which was our original intention. I bumped into another Childress patient at the car dealership..her eyes were red, and weepy. She told me that Dr. Carl had fitted her with contact lenses and told her this was normal. I felt so sorry for her, and yes, like us, she had already spent quite alot of money. No doubt, vision therapy works, but, at what cost? Mrs. Childress, nice before I paid, but, not later.

Dr. Childress and his staff were friendly, professional and he took the time to answer all my questions. He and his staff were very efficient. He discussed my eye care needs in a clear and information fashion. I appreciated the meticulous and thorough manner in which he performed my eye exam.
