Biography

I specialize in medical complications of pregnancy, including preterm birth and fetal growth restriction prevention and management. I also train residents in prenatal diagnosis using ultrasound. I have a special interest in preventing adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes and establishing international collaborations for teaching, research and service to disadvantaged communities. In addition to my clinical responsibilities as part of St. Luke’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and St. Luke’s Maternal Fetal Medicine, I serve as the Network’s section chief of Obstetrics and the director of research for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. I earned my MD and completed my residency at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in my native Bogotá, Colombia. I then completed a fellowship in perinatal medicine and ultrasound at Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School and University of London in the United Kingdom. My interest in biomedical research led me to the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, where I earned a master’s in clinical epidemiology, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine. Prior to joining St. Luke’s, I served as a senior staff fellow at the Perinatology Research Branch of the National Institutes of Child Health & Human Development, National Institutes of Health in Washington, DC. I also served on the faculty at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my dogs, taking hikes and learning how to kayak.
