I came into the ER with a case of "shingles," which I believed had become infected. I put "shingles" in apostrophes because that was the diagnosis given (but did not end up being true?). I told the first ER doctor that I had never had chicken pox and had been vaccinated against the virus, but she still insisted that it was shingles, BUT TOOK NO CULTURE!! Shingles is the reactivation of the chicken pox virus.
6 days later after being on the antiviral, I was getting sicker. Horrible joint aches, fever, headache and the outbreak was now very red. So, I went to the ER again, where I met Dr. Lovell-Rose. She believed I had been misdiagnosed and that it was a bacterial infection. That may or may not be right. But, my complaint about this doctor and her staff wasn't that call. I am no doctor; a proper diagnosis is what they are supposed to do. My problem was the 5 hour wait to get any care, and Dr. Lovell-Rose's obsession with lecturing me on my alcohol use. This was far more important to her than my bacterial infection, which she acknowledged could well be a blood infection (since the misdiagnosis resulted in open sores with no antibiotics). I have two prostheses. In my case, a blood infection would result in the loss of those replaced joints and major surgery to redo them, among other things.

After waiting 5 hours to be treated, I was told by Dr. Lovell-Rose that I didn't have shingles. Of course, when

Had a horrible experience with this physician. She ordered a medication that didn't fit the characteristics of my symptoms. I asked for her to come back and explain to me why she was prescribing this. 30 min later she still hadnt returned. The nurse tried to explain it to me but it was a very broad answer. I agreed to take the medication because i was in so much pain. No one explained the possible side effects of this medication and i ended up being the 5% who had a horrible reaction. Heart rate increased, felt like i couldn't breathe, flushed all over, increased temp. I felt so unsafe with this physician. I hope she learned her lesson and next time will talk to her patients and explain things thoroughly before putting them through such a traumatic experience.
