Dr. Jim Sullivan was highly recommended to me by a psychologist that practices in NY. He was also highly recommended by several people I knew personally. He is highly respected and very well educated in his field. He is compassionate, fair, looks at everyone's perspectives and has helped many families including mine get through many difficult situations. Cannot say one negative thing about him!

If you value confidentiality, professionalism and empathy, avoid this practitioner. After a poor experience with a clinician Dr. Sullivan had recommended for my son, I emailed Dr. Sullivan to suggest he reconsider recommending anyone else to this practitioner and additionally offered to fill him in on the details should he want to know what went wrong. Rather than following up to learn our perspective, Dr. Sullivan forwarded my email on to the practitioner in question along with a sarcastic quip about our family. I am aware of this because the practitioner screen shotted the email and texted it to my teenager (the patient). This was the second time Dr. Sullivan forwarded a private email, meant for him to this practitioner for whom it was unintended. Grossly inappropriate and frankly caused me to wonder what the heck this dynamic was all about. My son's experience with Dr. Sullivan was going well - for a couple of months. He felt understood and connected - until he didn't. He left the practice when, after openly sharing errors in judgement he had made and admitting to not following through on all of Dr. Sullivan's advice, he felt judged and scolded . This approach may work for some kids in therapy but I have yet to meet them. This experience helped my son recognize how compassionate and helpful his former therapist was - to whom he has thankfully returned.

Dr. Sullivan was a godsend and allowed me to deal with my divorce and heal becoming a stronger person. Dr. Sullivan has a very keen sense and offered constructive advice when handling my matters, which gave me the insight and knowledge to move forward in a positive and healthy direction. Jim Sullivan turned my life around. He has helped me in so many ways, it's tough to describe them all in a quick paragraph. 1 year ago I was severely depressed with no hope or light at the end of the tunnel. Jim's thoughtful, caring, intelligent approach helped me claw my way out and now I'm excited for the future and happy to be in the present. He has an extensive network and decades of experience which he draws from to deliver therapy tailored to the individual client. I am so lucky to have found him when I needed him most. A great therapist and a great man.

Once he couldn’t see us after 15 minutes of us waiting in his reception room because he “had to take a client to a hospital.” One of us had had to be driven to a hospital and had permanent body (health) damage after his “sessions.” 6 months of his “work” resulted in devastation for all sides seeking a relief. Everyone lost. A 12 years child lost more than others. He does not stand by his words, positions and instructions from previous sessions. These are facts and events. It seems like reporting other facts and events may not be allowed by the rule of politeness. Reporting that somebody lied may not be allowed by the rule of politeness as an example. - If you have a medical condition like high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems, heart problems, etc; and even if you take your medications, check with your physician frequently while attending his “sessions”. P.S. Note, positive comments are polite, but are lacking any details. He has to work on that.

Such an amazing man. Whoever gave him a low rating may just not have been a good match. Dr. Sullivan is the very best therapist I have ever been to, and one of the most helpful also.

I have learned the game that has cost me my child and that continues is called Parental Alienation Syndrome. My son has been completely menatlly manipulated for 4 years- Dr. Sullivan says "my boys are fine" and refuses to hear anything from my side, history or see my file. He was the court appointed therapist. As long as he gets paid, why go through the effort of hearing "facts" from the Mom who birthed and raised children and make the job of effectively treating my son actually effective. I've learned all the players in the system do just that- why do the right thing and cause extra work, even if a childs life is forever altered wrongfully and a Mother has wrongly lost a child, as long as one still gets paid for providing the appearance of services to appease a court and the Dad paying the bill. I'm outraged. My boys will go up to mimic what they are learning through their living- no, Dr. Sullivan, they "are not" just fine and neither is the Mom who hasn't seen them for 5 months.
