I spent 3 years with this doctor. He misdiagnosed me for that time period. On the first visit he asked me where my income came from since I was unable to work. I told him I was on disability. And since then he has always treated me like I didnt deserve disability. My new doctor diagnosed me with a more serious form of depression unlike Dr Caten who said I had mild depression. My new doctor, Dr Hsu, actually made sure I was getting disability because he understood there was no way I could work being that I was unable to get out of bed or leave the house.

Does know how to diagnose agoraphobia, even when the patient is telling him that they are afraid to leave their house.

Does not know how to diagnose mental illness. Wasted 3 years of my life with him and only got worse.

He doesn't think depression is a disability. Incorrect diagnoses. Had major depression for 30 years and yet he wasn't sure if I even had depression at all. Incompetent.

Failed to diagnose correctly. Had to go to another doctor for correct diagnosis. Not good with the hard cases.

Dr. Eric Caten is very insightful and knowledgeable about your mental issues. He knows how to use his skills for each issue and can help you best by you choosing to help yourself with his support. He's very poised and mannerly and kind. He listens well to me and helps me acknowledge the problems I need to work on or stay away from. He's sincere and understanding.

I've been seeing Dr. Caten for about 5 months. I have had severe psychiatric problems my entire life and have undergone at least 30 ECT (electroconvulsive or "shock" therapy) both in and out patient. Dr. Caten does not appear concerned and seems more concerned with getting patients in and out as quickly as possible, even checking off his patient sheet during an office visit. I asked him to prescribe a certain medication and he has refused twice, stating that he had never prescribed it before (and apparently refuses to even try). He is condescending, even going so far as to call me "doctor" because I had some knowledge and insight in to my disease. I tried to go back to the APRN who had treated me before I started seeing Dr. Caten. She refused to treat me, referring me back to him He can not or will not listen! I am FED UP.
