You'd be better off going to other good surgeons who do the same procedure which is what I did for several reasons. First, Dr. Norman & the NPC makes you pay for the surgeon consult completely out-of-pocket $1750 instead of going through your insurance company. All other surgeons go through your insurance company, like they should, so I did NOT have to pay for ANY of the surgeon consults completely out of pocket. NPC makes you do all the running around to get out-of-pocket estimates, which I did not have to do with other surgeons I consulted with. NPC doesnt like you to ask questions. If you have a couple simple individual needs, they dont want to deal with you. NPC charged me more than my insurance out-of-pocket max. NPC cancelled my surgery because I asked to have my two simple requests sorted out before I took long expensive trip. They care more about the numbers they can boast about on their web site than they do about individual patients. Total lack of empathy, professionalism, & you're just part of an assembly line of patients.

I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Norman. I self diagnosed after reading his website. I had gone to 6 doctors all of whom dismissed the possibility that I could have had Hyperparathyroidism. Saw an Endocrinologist from UCLA and she wasn't sure after performing a ridiculous amount of tests and useless imaging, all of which Dr. Norman advised were not necessary. Then she told me she didn't think I had it because my Calcium had gone down to 9.8 (my PTH was 85) and that is 'unusual because normally both Calcium and PTH would be elevated abnormally' in order for them to diagnose Hyperparathyroidism which I now know is NOT the standard for many cases and that the disease often behaves more like one or the other being high but not often at the same time; not everyone is a text book case where both Calcium and PTH are abnormally elevated. The UCLA doc's Sestamibi scan was barely visible. You could just make out a bit of my thyroid. She wanted to perform an FNA which I refused (see Dr. Normans's site to see why that should not be done on a suspected Parathyroid adenoma). In the end, I went to Dr. Norman. He removed 2 parathyroid adenoma's on the same day of my visit. I was a financially challenged self payer as I was on a terrible HMO that would pay nothing out-of-state, or out-of-network. The Norman Parathyroid Center worked with me on price, the hospital allowed me to pay payments and it was the single best decision that I have made in my life. My feet not longer hurt and I could stand on them for a normal amount of time again, my hair grew back, I no longer had chronic fatigue which really affected the quality of my life immensely. I no longer felt like an arthritic old lady on her last legs, and was dramatically better emotionally and back to normal clarity in my thinking and no longer experiencing palpitations. There were things that were happening that I didn't even realize were abnormal until after the surgery when they stopped happening, as I had become so accustomed to them, like sleeping but waking up feeling like I'd had no sleep, better memory and more.
I definitely can't speak for the few negative reviews on here. My experience was the complete opposite. Dr. Norman sent my op report and photos of my tumors (I had 2) to the doctors who dismissed me. My peasant insurance ended up reimbursing me because they realized litigation was forthcoming if they didn't. I have never looked back and I am so grateful that a surgery that took less than 20 minutes, indulged my vanity with the tiniest scar that is barely visible, and most importantly restored my quality of life. The sad thing is that when I was down there, they had just had a re-op from the doctor I'd seen at UCLA. I realized that could have been me had I not been smart enough to decide on attending the Norman Parathyroid Center.
Whatever you do, if you cannot attend these experts at the Norman Parathyroid Center, MOST DEFINITELY READ their website, especially the part about choosing a surgeon and what to look out for when choosing a doctor. There are a lot of endocrine docs out there that say they're experts on this issue and they really are not even remotely an expert so at least arm yourself with the correct info from Dr. Norman's website if you are unable to attend their clinic.

Well known to be creating fake reviews all over the web. Spends thousands on search engine optimization so when you Google hyperparathyroidism you just see pages and pages of him and his fake reviews. As the other comenter said, Norman was sued for fake medicare billing practices to the amount of $4,000,000. Would you let that guy cut you open knowing that?

Dr Norman performed surgery on me that failed to help me. Dr Norman, his website, and his phone app all misdiagnosed me. Since then I found the right treatment, explained what happened to Dr Norman, and received no response. Recommending the right treatment in cases such as mine would result in less surgery and less profit.

Hyperparathyroidism means that you have too much PTH, the hormone that regulates the amount of calcium in your blood. This can happen because of a tumor, which can be removed by surgery. Or it can happen because you lose too much calcium in your kidneys, which can be cured with a common medication.
Some people, such as me, have healthy kidneys that lose too much calcium. Dr Norman denies this possibility and performs ineffective and unnecessary surgery. This is wrong.
