Dr. Rhode is a very skilled surgeon, a compassionate listener, and excellent at explaining problems and procedures. The hysterectomy to remove uterine cancer was complicated by c-section scarring and a triple-sized uterus. Dr. Rhode took her time to be sure everything was done right. The operation, though long, was a complete success. Recovery was quick. Her office was very efficient in lining up required tests and surgery – we weren’t out of the visit before the office staff already had the tests lined up. We received visits and calls well after working hours from her following up on care and conveying test results.

My experience with Dr. Rhode left me feeling utterly betrayed, marginalized and violated. Before surgery I expressed to her concern about anesthesia and modesty during surgery. She "assured" me she would take "good care" of me. Like a fool I trusted her. Just before being taken into surgery I was deceitfully and against my explicit instructions, loaded with a sedative (versed.) I was rendered completely incapable of knowing what what happening to me not only before surgery but for hours after. I later learned that Dr. Rhode selected a male to assist her. She did this without my knowledge or consent, worse, I later learned she deliberately hid this information from me. I even had to pay him! When I asked her why she failed involve me in the decision, she told me it didn't matter; the gender of health care provides is "unimportant." Her lack of compassion was staggering.

My experience with Dr Rhode could not have been better. She performed a complicated total hysterectomy that resulted in no complications and minimal scarring. She listened to my concerns prior to surgery and made adjustments to the surgical plan that resulted in a very easy and quick recovery. She and her entire staff exhibited genuine concern and compassion toward me as a patient before, during and after surgery. She is a skilled surgeon with a great bedside manner and a doctor who listens to her patients. You can't ask for more than that. I would recommend her without any reservations.

Dr. Rhode did an excellent job removing my uterus, there were no complications. HOWEVER, she has absolutely no regard for patient modesty/vulnerability. On the day of my surgery, she allowed the anesthesiologist to drug me without warning and deceitfully--even though I said over and over again I wanted to be awake as I entered the OR and I wanted to wake up quickly. She also had a male assist her--this was a complete surprise to me. When I later complained, she simply did not understand why I was so upset about it. It's also important to point out that I had told her nurse about my modesty concerns before the surgery, but she completely marginalized my fears. I later learned that she didn't even record them. Bottom line--Dr. Rhode is a skilled surgeon, but if part of the reason you're choosing her is because you think she'll be sympathetic to your vulnerability during a gynecological procedure, think again.
