Dr.Docherty is a great Dr.He has been treating my father for lupus. He is a well educated Dr and knows his stuff about lupus. Its hard to find a Dr these days that will take as much time to explain your condition as he does. Also he will explane it to you in words that you can understand.Unlike some other Drs they use medical terminology that only medical people understand. On the other hand the staff needs to get on the same page as him.Messages are NEVER answered or return.I had to ask his nurse for her direct line. She gave me her extension number and now when I call with a question or concerns she will call me back.Other than that everything else is great. My dad has only been seeing him for the last 4 months. He has help my father so much in such a short time.We have another appt in the morning. One more thing if you are referred to see him,it will take some time to hear back about your first appt.I was told by the referring Dr that he goes through your medical records with a fine tooth comb to see if he can help you.If not he will tell you before the appointment is ever made.

Dr. Docherty is phenomenal. He is well educated-even about unusual disorders within his field. He takes time with each patient and tries to be sure the patient has the best quality of life possible. The staff responsible for returning phone calls and paperwork, however leave MUCH to be desired. Many messages go unanswered. Anything that needs to be done, must be done in person because nothing else will happen until the next appointment. Insurance forms are either not filled out or incorrectly filled out. I am well pleased with Dr. Docherty, but find myself looking for a new doctor due to the staff.

I have been seeing Dr. Docherty for many years for RA starting in Florence and even after he moved his practice to Sumter I have continued to drive there as he is the best Dr. for RA in the area as far as I am concerned. He listens and truly cares about his patients and seems to stay current and knowledgeable on the best treatments. He also knows that everyone is different and different medications work for some and not for others and is willing to try to find what will work best. His assistant, Wendy, is also a gem, with always a kind word.

Dr Docherty treated me for arthritis that I didn't have and caused a reactivation of hep b. He did a bllod test for hep b but did not tell me I had it and treated me with medicine for rheumatoid arthritis that I did not have rather than treat the hep b, I ended up in the hospital with acute liver failure and could have died.
