I saw her years ago briefly. I found her quite awful. She went to bottom ranked program. The last reviewer talked about people responding in anger. The trouble with this kind of defense of Leslie McGovern is that it smooths over what I saw as Leslie's issues: she has boundary issues and doesn't seem to respect men. Here's the final thing. Leslie gets paid. She has a responsibility to be competent. In my view, she isn't.

I have done therapy work with Leslie for several years. She was highly recommended to me by another local therapist after I had unsuccessfully worked with two previous therapists. And no – I didn’t slam them in reviews in anger. They just weren’t good fits. Leslie helped me immensely with both trauma and family issues. She definitely does NOT have a one size fits all approach to therapy. She is caring, honest, reliable and experienced. I highly recommend her.

I found Dr. McGovern to be very helpful in dealing with both some of the situational and life-long issues I had. She took her time to get to know me and helped me feel comfortable sharing very difficult things. She was professional yet personable. I will definitely see her again if additional issues surface for me.

Leslie is a TERRIBLE therapist. She was clueless with how to interact with me to help me address my issues, but always said that she knew what she was doing. I believed her and she did not warrant my trust. She has a one size fit all approach which she is unwilling to alter based on client's individual needs. She talked a lot about herself and her Buddhist beliefs and had real boundary problems. After seeing another therapist now for 6 months, I'm just beginning to undo the damage that she caused me. My therapist and I are looking into filing a complaint with the board--she too has heard of other people being unsatisfied with Leslie. Please stay away from her. There are much, much more competent therapists in State College!

I have to say that Leslie is an absolutely amazing therapist. I have been seeing her for years and she has helped me through many changes in my life. She is a wonderful listener, gives great, honest advice and genuinely cares for her clients. I would HIGHLY recommend her.

I disagree with the other comments. I've seen several good therapists and Leslie is very scattered and our conversations were difficult as she didn't seem to know what to ask next or how to respond to what I said. She is a warm, caring person, but this doesn't mean that she is a good therapist when it comes to really talking out issues and moving toward resolution. Working with her was like spinning my wheels. I'm happy to have found a better quality therapist in town.

Excellent therapist! Her style is inflected by buddhist principles, which might not be for everyone, but it was great for me (as a non-buddhist). She's really relaxed during the sessions and this atmosphere was very helpful to being comfortable to sharing with her.
