Awesome doctor. I had severe back pain and now I don't. I can exercise and play with my kids (I have a 3, 5, and 7 year old.) I trust him and his staff. Great bedside manner. I only needed a couple epidurals and a good back brace.

Does anyone know if his office accepts Medicaid or one that does? I need help with addiction and I'm a single parent with little income.

I was in a car accident 13yrs.ago,in which I injured my back terribly,I seen many Drs. throughout the years but none of them could seem to ever help me,Then I was referred to Dr. Willens office by a friend,I've been a patient of his for the past 2yrs.He's an excellent Dr. who truly cares about the well being of his patients. He's went above and beyond to help me with my back issues..His office staff is great also,Melissa and Amber are always so good to me,I feel right at home everytime I come to visit.I would highly recommend Dr.Willens to all my family, friends, and anyone else who's looking for a Doctor who is honest and they can trust.I really appreciate all that they have done for me. ~Lori Gleason

I started going to Dr. Willens a few months ago for back pain after surgery and terrific leg pain. I had a few different procedures done until we finally found the one to correct my leg pain. Dr. Willens and his staff are so caring and helpful. I never felt anxious and they were with me the entire time of the procedure. Dr. Willens is kind and knowledgeable and I will continue my visits with him so that all my discomfort is completely gone.

Really wonderful place. I was made to feel at home right away...like I was part of a family. You can really tell when the people in the office are happy to be there and this place is just right on. Everyone is so helpful and kind and genuinely seem to care. Most important, I am a lot better and I am off those oxycontins that another doctor put me one. I can't thank Dr. Willens enough.

Great staff...feels like going home. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The doctor is really kind and is it obvious he loves what he does. Most importantly, I am a lot better. I am almost off Oxycontin and I am actually able to exercise, play with my kids, and go fishing! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Willens...he gave me my life back in a confident and caring way. Thank you so much!!!

I have mixed feelings. He helped, but the wait was often several hours. The treatments worked, but the treatments themselves were terribly painful. The doc seemed to recognize the fear in my eyes, but did nothing to manage the treatment pain unless I insisted. The doc seem to trust me with medication as I turned in un-needed medication, but ordered $450 urine tests check for every possible abused drug on the planet. (I did have to pay some for those ridiculous urine tests.) Now that I am not in desperate pain, I would never consider going there again. Something is not right.

Dr. Michael S. Willens' response
We wish that these concerns were presented in an office setting so that we could address them properly. Florida law dictates that urine drug screens be used as part of prudent procedure to ensure public safety. Our policy is to screen at each and every visit in order to detect proper use, misuse or abuse, addiction, and diversion. We understand that pain is debilitating physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. Our primary purpose is to help. We understand these concerns and are glad that you are doing better.

After being in a car accident, I visired many doctors trying to help me get better instead of just pushing meds and collecting copays. Dr. Willens is kind, gentle and passionate about helping his patients. He has been aggressive to find procedures that may help and everything is done in his office instead of having to go to different places and pay additional copays for procedures. Staff is great and caring asa well. I was very nervous to go to a pain mgmnt office because of the social stigma involved and did not get that feeling at all here. A wonderful office and a great man. In my eyes, he is the best doctors you could ask for. Thanks to everyone atk his office for all you do!

Biography

Dr. Michael Willens is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and Board Certified Pain Management physician who is passionate about being a “steward of healing.” He always had a deep respect and admiration for the doctors he knew. Those great physicians who were his mentors growing up, shaped his vision of what the art and the practice of medicine could be. Unfortunately nowadays, it is too common that being a doctor has moved away from these traditional values and has become a business. Both doctors and patients long to have the kind of relationships and care which has been eroded out of medicine due to “managed care” and “socialized medicine.” His mission in forming The Advanced Pain Management Clinic was to return to these time honored principles and to return to actually practicing the art of medicine. With this in mind, he studied Psychology, Philosophy, Ethics, and the Pre-Medical Sciences at Michigan State University. It was at this time that he was exposed to the similarities between Quantum Physics and the Eastern Philosophies. One of the essential principles of these very different disciplines was the duality of energy and matter: of the spirit and the body. The desire to apply this knowledge would become an important part of his interest to use Acupuncture, in addition to the traditional Western scientific technologies, to treat Pain and relieve suffering. He received his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. MSU COM is one of the best programs in the country for Biomechanics; Medicine; and Osteopathic Manual Medicine. It was there that he learned the holistic philosophy and the practical skills of Osteopathic Medicine that are ideal for the treatment of Pain. Following his intensive medical internship at the prestigious Detroit Henry Ford and Riverview Hospitals, he went on to received his specialty training in Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the world famous Cleveland Clinic Foundation. As a Special Fellow, he studied closely with Dr. Michael Stanton-Hicks, the world renowned physician and researcher. He formed lasting and strong professional relationships with his professors and is honored that they give him their highest recommendations. At The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he learned all Interventional Pain Management techniques which included everything from Acupuncture to Spinal Cord Stimulation. He also pursued advanced studies in Acupuncture with Dr. Joseph Helms from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA to add to his skills and knowledge. Dr. Willens is a member of the most prominent medical societies including the American Osteopathic Association, the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Further, Dr. Willens is an expert and regular lecturer at the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association conferences where he provides his colleagues with their REQUIRED STATE OF FLORIDA CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION credits for FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS RELATED TO THE PRESCRIBING OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES. Dr. Willens has combined his interests, passions, skills, and knowledge in all that he does. He is a professional photographer, amateur astronomer, musician, artist, philosopher, physician, husband and father of four boys. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2001 and established the Advanced Pain Management Clinic. He created a unique, boutique-styled practice which is less clinical and more familiar, comfortable and home-like. In 2013, he was able to purchase and develop a large plot of land in the heart of Mandarin, Florida so that he could create his dream of a beautiful and State-of-the-Art facility where patients are able to receive the care that each of us deserves. He recruited a very special team of medical professionals who are truly set apart in their personal attention to patients. He and his team welcome and invite you to become one of our patients and experience the kind of care that each one of us deserves.
