My friend who was fighting cancer had a terrible experience with her. She would not provide IV fluids, which had helped my friend tremendously in the past. Friend switched doctors, and her new doctor had no problem getting her what she wanted. No one should have to fight with their provider while dealing with terminal cancer.

Dr VanderWoode was assigned to me as part of my oncology team and I stayed with her for two years—way too long. She was condescending, seemed out of touch with what patients on AI drugs deal with on a daily basis. When I asked about my wrist pain after 10 months of hip, knee and back pain I was told it wasn’t from the Anastrozole drug. I saw a Orthopaedic dr and also researched Anastrozole, She dismissed the medical abstract I had printed and brought in stating Anastrozole can cause De Quervain Tenosynovitis, which is what I was diagnosed with by the Orthopaedic Dr.

Dr VanderWoude is one of the most AMAZING Oncologist in GR! She is personable empathetic but HIGHLY IN DEMAND... she's that good at what she does. I was originally diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in April 2007. Dr Amy was there for me every step of the way. Checked in on me frequently. Her treatment and team of Oncologist gave me 11 yrs of being cancer free. May 2019 I received a diagnosis of Metastatic Breast Cancer that is in now in my liver and bone. Again I am at Stage 4. Knowing that Dr VanderWoude would again be my Oncologist made me and my family feel at ease with the new diagnosis.

I wonder if the others saw the same Dr. Dr VanderWoude was caring, patient, and answered all my questions. She took time and explained everything so I would understand. She presented options and advised me what each option would entail. I never felt like she was in a rush (which I know she was) and made sure she answered all my questions. I would refer her to anyone needing an onocologists!

I saw her a few times before giving up and getting a new dr. Most of the time, yes, I agree she could be very "snippy" and condescending. She definitely thinks she is much better than her patients. It was difficult to discuss treatments & options because she acted like you were questioning HER - she would get quite defensive. She wasn't ALL bad - I was hospitalized at one point and she was very kind when she came to see me. She spent a lot of time just sitting with me, explaining what things were going to happen - I would actually say she was quite comforting! BUT, overall I just did not appreciate being talked "down" to, waiting on her to make decisions, etc. I agree that it seemed that she just didn't realize - or didn't care - how important her job is.

Frustrating, condescending, seemingly unaware of the enormous responsibility of her occupation, lives are nothing to put on hold, ignore, chastise, disregard and rebuke.

Works only one day per week. Is slow to act and is slow to make decisions. Does not answer questions clearly. She appears to veiw questions about concerns or treatment options as a power struggle between herself and the patient. Does not supply the patient with enough information to have informed consent. Passive patients will like her, ones that want to understand and be involved in their own care will meet great resistance.

Dr VanderWoude is very professional and knowledgeable. She is stays very current with the newest advances in cancer treatment. Dr. VanderWoude has a real heart for her patients and takes each of their cases very seriously. The administrative staff at the cancer center could be more organized and efficient in dealing with the patients.
