I have been seeing Dr. Varu for about a year now and I am finally feeling the most "normal" I've ever felt in my entire life. I was bedridden with depression and bipolar for two years and he put me on a medication regimen that is actually helping me. I've never been properly medicated and it's amazing to finally be living a somewhat normal life. I would recommend him to anyone but especially to those with bipolar disorder. Thank you so much Dr. Varu.

We found this doctor to be totally heartless and cold. He also suggested a medication for FTD that is according to websites' info is in fact of questionable use for FTD. He said that "dementia is dementia" Well it is not, there are different kinds of dementia and the medication, treatment and symptoms vary. I know this because my mother died of Lewy body dementia and my husband has frontal temporal dementia. This doctor acted as if we were wasting his time in seeking help or information about my husband's condition. No compassion displayed whatsoever, he looked at my husband as if he were a bug. My poor confused husband even commented on how dismissive the doctor was. The doctor had absolutely nothing to offer us in the way of information or advice, or even a little sympathy so it was a big waste of time for us. The doctor even made a point of walking out with us to the reception desk to emphasize that we would not be returning to his office. My recommendation is to drive a little farther to receive the advice and treatment you deserve. We got a name of another provider on Bainbridge island who was referred by others with loved ones suffering from dementia. Looking forward to being treated with compassion and respect. Good luck to you.

I don't understand the poor reviews, maybe these reviews are from people who do not want to follow the doctors advice. Dr.Varu is the most compassionate Dr. I have ever been to. However, he will call you on your B.S. which is what a good doctor should do. Dr.Varu is an excellent listener and communicator. As for the office manager, she was nothing but professional, polite, friendly and she follows HIPAA guidelines to the letter. I am a Medicare patient and generally we are poorly treated compared to patients with regular insurance. He obviously cares about people more than money because Medicare pays less than standard insurance. Good luck finding a psychiatrist who takes Medicare at all, much less one who treats you with 100% dignity. I would recommend Dr.Varu to anyone who wants a knowledgeable, caring and compassionate Doctor.

Office staff is unorganized, poor at scheduling, and rude. After waiting for 40 minutes for my appointment, I had to leave.

Dr. Vanraj Varu has horrible communication skills, and I'm not talking about his accent. He is rude, arrogant, impatient, easily ruffled and provides abysmal customer service. He apparently doesn't understand how to talk to patients or answer questions that patients are entitled to ask. I would not send a dog to Dr. Varu, much less a loved one. Doctors like him don't seem to understand that customer service goes a long way. He is a reflection of everything that is wrong with the medical profession. He won't get another moment of my business.

Dr Veru is competent as a psychiatrist but he can be rather cold and clinical. I had problems with his wife who is the office manager giving me (actually arguing) medical advice about medications for my son that could have put him at great risk. this happened on two or three occasions. I called to leave a message for Dr Veru, her husband, to call me. I ended up having to write him a certified letter. He called me then and admitted his wife was wrong, but then defended her. I would not recommend Dr. Veru as a first choice, but a last choice.

Good with diagnosis, but very rude and abrupt. Overheard him talking extremely negatively and condescending about a patient to her face, that he just got done seeing. Then he went to the receptionist and continued to talk about the patient very loudly and angrily in front of other patients in waiting room. Makes me wonder what he says about me behind my back.
