went to a consult with top surgeons Orlando DeLucia, in Farmington CT / UConn for my top surgery appointment; after waiting 6 months for this visit.

I filled out what should have been inclusive paperwork when the nurse asked the lobby for me, “deadname” and when we got back she said “Is deadname what I should call you, deadname?” Okay.

I got on the scale and she yelled at me for not staying still (I shake) and I was visibly shaken and she was like “oh I meant the scale” ha. ha.

I change and get ready. Everything is going fine. Dr DeLucia keeps asking if I’m nervous. Okay?? He asks my pronouns and I say I’m comfortable with anything. “Good that way I won’t get in trouble if I mess up.” Excuse me? In trouble??

Everything is okay for a while until I discuss my medication list and things take turn for the worst. I ask him what I could continue taking through & after surgery, and what I should stop. He starts ripping in to me when I hand him my list of medications that I don’t know how to take care of myself — what the fk? I tell him I only have one old medication that I don’t remember who prescribed for me, because it was a few years ago, and he reprimands me after I try to make a light hearted joke about it to settle the obvious tension and is visibly angry.

I think my physicians know more than this clown to tell me I don’t need it - or anything else - anymore.

I’m on some preventative medications he tells me I don’t need and shouldn’t be on. These are all recent and I know I need them — HOWEVER. I have permission to go off these for a while (and I barely take them as is ) and he is absolutely ripping into me - telling me I don’t know my own body, can’t care for myself & he needs to take care of me for me so I don’t “die on the table.”

I’ve clammed up at this point and am done talking to someone who won’t listen to me.

He says he’s going to contact my doctors and tell them what I need and don’t need. I tell him not to mess with my medications because I need this stuff.

He says “I need to call and find out what you’re supposed to be on” I’M F@@CKING TELLING YOU. I gave him a list and I have clearance to NOT use the medications for however long needed before / after surgery and he just kept ignoring me and demeaning me. What I needed from him was to tell me what to stay away from for a temporary time frame.

He says I sound ‘less than pleased’ ….mothefrrr ???

He then says that because of my answer about my pronouns that he’s questioning if I should have this surgery because I “don’t care” about it and I’m …not trans enough? He was like “because you don’t care about your pronouns that’s really questionable to me.”

While he’s going through my medication list he also says “Of course you have anxiety and depression that’s a given” Why it must be people like you my guy.

My sister says she understands what he is saying about making sure about what type of medication I am on, and I agree with this. It’s why I gave him the LIST. She also says it definitely sounds like he came at me way too aggressively and was using the ‘pronouns’ as a way to cover that up & that he definitely does not have a good bed side manner to say the least. I don’t really know what that means.

I showed her the video I took during the consultation. I was not meaning to capture “spy footage” or what have you, but when he started getting aggressive I started filming for something to show my therapist, doctor and endocrinologist team.

My therapist agrees with all of this after watching the footage and says he really embraced the role of gatekeeper and his tone and way he spoke to me was not at all appropriate; as well as the way I was dressed in sweats and a ponytail at the consultation led him to believe I wasn’t committed to being a man.

He does not accept they/them pronouns or non binary individuals

& honestly. When you have to dig around and scrounge the internet for photos of his work on patients, it’s not a good sign anyways.

Dr.Delucia performed my Breast reduction and lift with beautiful results. After my surgery I developed a hematoma in my left beast which needed another surgery to evacuate the old blood. I was scared and frustrated knowing I had to go back to the OR, but Dr.Delucia was positive, caring and compassionate towards me and my concerns. He assured me that this does happen although not very often and everything would be okay. He held my hand right before I was put under and rubbed my face to clear my tears. He is an absolute angel and very knowledgeable about the procedures and complications from the surgery. He is a no BS kind of doctor and tells it how it is (in a very sweet way) but knows what has to be done. I would definitely see him again and highly recommend him to anyone who is considering any type of breast augmentation. Thank you Dr.Delucia!

After a breast cancer diagnosis and deciding to have tissue expander with reconstruction after double mastectomy, I asked my PCP who he would send his wife to. He immediately recommended Dr DeLucia. Yes, he speaks quickly but will spend as much time with you as YOU need to understand and feel comfortable. He is a perfectionist and strives to ensure you look fabulous but feel even better! He is compassionate, thorough and kind.
His supporting staff are just as awesome in every way possible. They make a very difficult time as easy as possible.
