I recently saw Dr McElwain for a deviated septum. After several tests I was scheduled for a septoplasty. Leading up to surgery her staff was rude and short with me (on more than one occasion). They often made me feel like I was a burden. I mentioned this to the Doctor and she did not acknowledge her staffs behavior. Mind you, I've never had surgery and I’m paying money to have a service done. As expected, I had questions about the process. After surgery I had a lot of difficulty breathing from my mouth (nose was packed). I arrived to have my nose plugs removed 5 days later still having trouble breathing but wore my mask into the building. After entering the office (and seeing no other patients in the room), I asked to remove my mask because of breathing issues. From that point on I was treated very poorly by the local staff in Cranberry. I was covid tested right before surgery and laid up in bed for the last week. Because I had difficulty breathing in a mask I kindly requested an exception to the rules for the brief moment I was in the building. I was quickly met with sarcasm and rudeness, only to be rushed out of the office. The staff was very unprofessional. They undermined and discredited my conditions. Regardless of whether I (the customer) was right or wrong, I would have appreciated a small amount of empathy, patience and care.
I genuinely appreciate you Dr. McElwain and for the most part you treated me good and I trust the job was done right. Your staff on the other hand needs addressed. There are thousands of able body people on unemployment that would gladly act with more professionalism and integrity than the staff you have now. This is a service industry; no patient should EVER be treated the way I was treated.
